Dangerous A**holes!! Never mind a fine if they're caught, they should be banned from driving. Joy |

I think people do it because they are certain they will never get 'done' for it. It would be interesting to hear how many people had actually been convicted so far - I bet it is very very few. I cannot lie, I have done it myself, but only if stuck in traffic (ie crawling or at standstill) to advise someone that I am going to be very late. But it seems that everyone else is happy to use theirs (not handsfree either) at any speed and when trying any manoevre! Maz. XX |

They deserve everything that's coming to them (other than accidents of course), though that's not to say, they won't cause any. God help any poor unsuspecting pedestrian that gets in their way!! After all, before these things were invented and people 'just had to have' them, people survived fine without them. Granted, they are a boon to those who chose to use them sensibly and with consideration for others in mind while doing so. And many a parent (these days) must feel more relaxed knowing that their child can contact them as and when the parent requires, regardless of cost. Personally, I hate the things.......and would not have one given me. My son gave me his old one once, knowing full well I didn't want it but because I'm diabetic, he thought it would help if I was ever to have a Hypo outdoors. I carried it around in my shopping bag for a week or two without ever having it switched on.........eventually he got it back unused. Lin xx |

Jean, I have one of those cordless phones indoors, that you can carry anywhere within 300 ft of the base........don't know the proper name, and the younger generation on here will probably laugh their socks off at me but hey.......what the heck!! I hate that too........every time I have to use it, I get earache and my ear starts to heat up. I have always told my family that they are not safe...too much radiation, and nothing anyone tells me to the contrary will sway me on that one............in years to come, long after I've popped off, they will have all kinds of medical problems cropping up through it all. I do have a mobile, but if it goes off while I'm driving I ignore it. I can always call the person back. Joy |

Lin .... we must be physic twins. Went to a meeting and was told they are more dangerous than mobile phones. They are so dangerous because they not only affect the user, on or off the handset, but people living next door. Have now got rid of mine and gone back to an old fashioned phone....... found I couldn't multitask anyway LOL. Jean x. |

I have never had a moblie but my 3 kids do and most of all my rellies do. I have never had a car either and ride my bike to work. I wish that the cops would set up a mobile phone trap like a speed trap. Guarantee they would catch people everyday on the main road I use. |

Well Jean you do surprise me, my phones definately on it's way out then. There' nothing natural about putting a phone to your ear and having your ear heat up and become painful in less than two or three minutes.......and no! I'm not exagerating either!!!! I've got BT coming next week to put an extra connection in for me, so I think I'll treat myself to a lovely granny phone you know, the ones with the big buttons, that you can't miss! lol. Lin xx |

I've got one - was haranged into having one by various family members, but quite honestly it just sits on the kitchen table and I have never got it on me when I go out. I acknoiwledge that they can perhaps be 'life-savers' in some circumstances, but I object to being available to all and sundry 24 hours a day. I do however, use the text facility - I find folk respond quicker to a text message than they do to a message left on an answering machine. And as for using one when driving - never in a million years - and those who do so ought to be properly penalised for potentially endangering other peoples lives. |

I didn't think anyone had been done but about 50,000 tickets have been issued. A £30 fine is ridiculous but this year it will be £80 and three points. Not before time these people should not be on the road. Maz you will be convicted even if stuck in traffic so don't do it. Bob |

A few months ago I saw a driver using his mobile whilst driving along, fortunatly so did two policeman on foot. He turned into a dead end side road a few yards up the road and the policeman ran after him. By the time I walked past they were speaking to him by his car - good for them! Maybe they should be banning other forms of driver distraction - smoking, shaving, gossiping etc (!) Then that still leaves children......! |

Margaret, Know exactly what your saying, I'm under enough fire from my kids just coming on the computer and tying the phone up, without people wanting to get at me 24/7...G*d forbid!!!!! That's why BT's coming, so I can go over to Broadband and keep the line free. I just can't understand anyone who can't live their lives without being hooked up to a phone............What's it all about??? O.K, o.k, I know it's today's generation but by the time they get in bed at night it's a wonder their jaws have not dropped off!!!! lol Lin xx |

I was driving behind a stupid woman at around 5.30 in the evening when the roads are very busy. She was driving with one hand on the wheel and holding a mobil with the other in a very large overpowering 4x4 and in the back of the car it was stuffed to capacity with kids. No indications, overtook parked cars giving a 20 foot wide berth in doing so scaring the living daylights out of the on coming traffic. Stopped dead when she decided that this was where she wanted to drop the kids off holding all the traffic up, off loaded the kids got back into the car and drove of, and still she was talking on the blasted mobile. Totally irresponsible not only for the children in her car but also to fellow drivers - should be tarred and feathered. Lin |

Selfish and completely oblivious to the danger to others and themselves. I see several drivers every single day in normal and fast moving traffic using one hand to drive and one to hold their phone or, even worse compose and send a text! Corners are taken erratically and road positioning is horrific. I'd like to see such drivers penalised properly for this. I have enough trouble sending a text whilst walking so to even think of doing it whilst in control of a moving vehicle is astounding. I know it's still illegal in stationary traffic but that's not quite the same is it and I think the penalties shouldn't apply. Some roads become so gridlocked that they are effectively car parks and sending a text or making a call to say you are going to be very delayed in these conditions is hardly the same as doing the same whilst on the move, even if the engine is running. Daisy - now off to brave the school run! |

Haven't seen all the replies yet (only read Page 1) and I'm with Joy and Joan here. I also have to say they're potential killers. Yes, I'm being dramatic maybe, but it's a matter of fact. :-(( |
