They were discussing this on Loose Women earlier in the week. I was surprised to hear Lesley Garrett (opera singer) admit to drinking a cup of coffee whilst driving her kids to school. She mentioned doing a couple of other things which I can't recall but they sounded a bit dodgy. She said she knew she was doing wrong but tried to justify it by saying she just had SO much to do in the mornings......

I think it's very dangerous for drivers to take a hand off the steering wheel when their vehicle is moving, unless just crawling in heavy traffic - but even then, a slight lapse in concentration could cause a shunt. I don't have a mobile phone, but I do sometimes use my husbands when I'm a passenger in the car. He uses a hands-free kit, which I think is acceptable. I don't see that using hands-free technology is any different from tuning a radio or changing a CD in a car - it's no more of a distraction. What I've always found difficult to understand is how people can light cigarettes while they're driving, but I suppose the technique comes with practice. I was very frightened once last year when I was coming home on a bus from a trip into London. For much of the journey, the lane beside the one we were in was taken up by a huge articulated transporter truck. It had massive metal roof gables secured on the trailer, and I was horrified to see the driver with just one hand on the steering wheel, while talking into a mobile phone held in his other hand! If he'd lost control of that truck on a bend or roundabout, there could have been the most almighty accident. The bus driver saw it too and said he was going to report it to the Police. I hope he did. CB >|<

I see no visible nudge ................ The thread moved to the top just before 20 past 8. I looked at it and the last message was dated at 1.43 am. Hence it was a phantom nudge. If you nudge your own threads it's usual to leave the nudge and not delete it. Gwynne

just being a bit picky, but how does your car change gear? or how do the windows open? on mine I have to use my left hand to move a gearstick....... or operate a switch meanwhile. I only have one hand on the wheel........... it is what you are doing with your MIND that is the critical thing. Bob
