UzziAndHerDogs Report 14 Sep 2011 18:53

Ever since we have moved OH has been getting headaches at night once he has come to bed .....
We 1st put it down to it being hot, the stress of moving, tiredness. Occasionally these headaches appeared in the afternoon.
We now have put it down to the bedroom, lol we have eliminated me as it happens on siesta's also.
Today we have gone through everything in the bedroom...to work out what is in this one new to what we didn't have before.

Whatever it is doesn't affect me or Minx who also sleeps in there under the bed. We have slept with both the window open and the window shut so have eliminated any outside influences.
We came up with the fire extinguisher (foam) and we have the small freezer tucked into the corner (the only place to put it as no room in the kitchen area, right next door).

I suggested, after me, that maybe it's the hum of the freezer and that for some reason it affects him and not us. The headaches don't occur when he is at work or out and about.
Totally baffled but we have moved the freezer and the extinguisher outside the van for now and will see what tonights sleep brings.
OH normally can sleep through any noise, he has slept through slates coming of a roof above us before now, so it's not the noise but maybe the pitch.
Any ideas ?

Have you got a Carbon Monoxide alarm as I would buy one and put it in the bedroom.if it screams then you need to get some one to check all boilers.

UzziAndHerDogs Report 14 Sep 2011 19:50

Sue that's something I said today. That we either get our gas alarms from the RV or we buy new ones. (we are going to buy new ones) . That occured to me today when trying to work it out, that this van doesn't have gas alarms.
The only thing what makes me say it's not a gas thing is we have had all the windows open at night, and it hasn't affected me or the dogs. It's something I overlooked being so happy about moving was the alarms I like in a van. This doesn't have them. I brought with me extinguishers and blankets but no gas alarm.
It's a good point to bring up mind Sue as many vans don't think about that. Thanks.

Mayfield Report 14 Sep 2011 19:51

As Sue says it could be Carbon Monoxide, as an ex gasfitter I would say please don't rely on a detector.

If you have gas appliances turn them off and get them checked by a "gas safe" registered enginer at once.

I don't want to panic you but better safe than sorry!

Best wishes,
Mayfield.

There is a study somewhere that says you should not sleep within 6 foot of ANY electricial equipment ..including mobiles phones but so many of us use them as alarms ...this does include televisions...

Mayfield ..come back...lol

We have gas ..our cooker is butane/calor/propane bottles under the van 2 steps away from the bedroom. ..but that normally affects me. Our aircon brand new 3weeks ago went down 5days ago and the chap re-gassed 2 days ago but that is outside furthest away from the bedroom. Other than that we have no gas ..
Tomorrow, if he gets another headache tonight , I think I will get OH to turn the bottles off incase of pipe leakage

Annx Report 14 Sep 2011 20:15

Is it a gas freezer as that could be giving off carbon dioxide if there is a problem with the cooler on it?

Let us know if he has a better night now you have put it outside.

KempinaPartyhat Report 14 Sep 2011 20:26

Yes I can hear lamps and electric/radio clocks buzzing at night so had to get rid!!

BUT like people are saying do check the freezer for leaks aswel.

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 14 Sep 2011 20:39

It's not a gas freezer just an ordinary household one but it does hum as I hear it and get annoyed with it then ignore and sleep. Worst I have is the tick of the battery clock ....which we will need when OH does days.

yes I will let you know how things go tonight.

Kemp I am such a scaredy about gas. when we lived in the RV I used to shut the bottle off every night, and there was no leak on that. lol

KempinaPartyhat Report 14 Sep 2011 20:49

In the back of all freezers (Ithink) there is a gas of some kind thats why they have to be got rid of carefully!!

Like people say get all your gass supplies checked

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 14 Sep 2011 20:51

Sue I will, I didn't think I could get to them easy (have trouble getting in small places under vans) but I can and will turn off tonight

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 14 Sep 2011 20:57

Kemp all fridge stuff have a form of gas bottle and yes I worry about ours ..not because it's old which it isn't but because we keep moving it. But I still say we have slept with windows open since we have moved as the lowest night time temp is still around 26deg and the open window is above the freezer.

Taking no chances mind freezer out
