Thankyou everybody for replying,

I will quickly answer a few
No he doesn't drink red wine at all, but yes he drinks plenty of water
I did worry about the bed as it can't be moved .lol it doesn't fit anuother way round and we wouldn't be able to turn the van round.
Paint is fairly new same with insulation so no asbestos.
Air quality will be fine as we sleep with all the windows open and it's not far from where we used to be.

WE HAVE however discovered the problem ..the one thing that we all but counted out as I am sensitive to gas and can smell it a mile off as a rule, and the fact that neither me or the mutts are affected but yes we turn the gas bottles off at night and hey presto sleep full nights ..well almost Minx woke him up at 6.30am lol.
As it's only a short pipe between bottle to cooker we will look into it as soon has OH gets a day off and hope it's not the cooker to itself.

Once again Thanyou everybody for your imput

Oh and Robin it's not me that needs to be careful when sleeping yesterday I sported a beaut of a black eye where OH had elbowed me in the eye whilst asleep!

Kemp since turning the bottles off when not in use he's not had a headache.
It's strange mind we had a slight leak on the outside pipe on the RV and I picked that up immediately (although that was by the door I walked past all the time).
I still can't pick it up in here, still we will replace the pipe and the head next week when we can get to the shops even tho' they both look fairly new. Mind I think I shall get into the habit of turning the bottles off at night and when not in use as the only gas we have is the hob top. mmm might have to go and buy an electric kettle for the winter :-D

Uzzi .............Just checking back to see how things are going with you and hubby ..
Hope his head is better and you have had time to change the pipes and head on the gas .

I think you are right in turning the gass of each night ..I know its a pain to turn back on in the mornings but at least you are both safe

Take care

Hi Kemp the headaches have stayed away since turning the bottles off and one of todays jobs for OH is to replace all the gas line as he thinks that when they put the fridge in they stretch the line so it may have slipped slightly. So today he went and bought a longer length of hose.

Fingers crossed x

Mayfield Report 25 Sep 2011 09:42

As turning off the gas at night has cured the headaches I would sill suspect combustion products like CO (carbon monoxide). Butane or propane gas is heavier than air so it sinks down to low level, which is one reason why gas pipes are run underneath a caravan or mobile home so that leaks are less likely enter the unit.

CO however is a product of the poor combustion of gas; it’s odourless and slightly lighter than air so a pet sleeping under the bed would in theory the last to be exposed to it.

You mentioned a new fridge is that gas? Any appliance that is burning gas can cause a problem, fridge, water heater, cooker etc; perhaps even their pilot lights could produce a quantity of CO.

DIY is really not the way to go whether it’s CO from burning gas or a gas leak from the pipes, the only real answer is to have the installation checked by a reliable qualified person. If he/she says it’s all safe and that bloke Mayfield on the Genes site is an idiot no one will be happier than me! ;-)

Stay safe best wishes,
Mayfield

Uzzi.

I know I can be a pain in the butt about the gas problem but PLEASE PLEASE get a QUALIFIED PERSON to check all your appliances and be on the safe side.

And I am glad that you are turning the gas bottles off on a night.
The carbon monoxide is a KILLER

We have now changed the pipeline that leads from the bottle to the hob which is our only gas burning appliance, (although we do have fridge and freezer indoors) The previous line was short and only just covered the connection (there is now 2 jubilee clips on it) I have today bought a gas detector also.
In October one of our winter friends is a qualified gas fitter (semi-retired) so will get him to check it out.
Mayfield nobody will say you are an idiot, because you are not. The fridge and freezer are electric but don't they run with some form of gas in them?

Mayfield Report 25 Sep 2011 17:27

Not sure what type of gas is in modern fridge freezers these days I think they all changed to avoid CFC’s.
Many years ago as an apprentice I could have told you exactly how they worked, but that knowledge is lost in the mists of time. :-(

All the best,
Mayfield :-)

Don't delay Uzzi in getting a qualified engineer to investigate your problem. It is a small price to pay for you and your husbands safety.

When I was a child I almost died from fumes coming from a gas boiler in the kitchen. Apparently, cat hairs had blocked it , she used to sit on the boiler. I was in the first upstairs bedroom , the whole family were affected and taken to hospital. It must have been a wake up call for my parents.
