Well we have the marriage cert for Grace who married a Morris, but shame she died in child birth at the the age of 27. No we don't have a death date for Joseph at the moment. We have been trying to track Grace, but that seems to be a problem to sort first.

Thanks again to all for looking, been a long time since i asked for help and still some lovely helpful people on this site.

Margaret :D

If Jessie was either Jones or Bryant there doesn't appear to be a birth for her? so maybe given as Janey suggest that Rebbie sounds American, possibly Joseph did go to US and brought back American wife?

There's a J Rugg on Ellis Island records for 1893...he's the right age, but can't read occupation?

Not sure of the details of Joseph going to America, your right about Rebbie, she was born in Birmingham and ended up working as a servant in solihull, i don't know to many details of Rebbie. Only she isn't the daughter to Joseph?

The plot gets thicker, as i didn't know about Rebbie.

And Shirley didn't see that I posted the Rebbie marriage on page 1. ;)

There's no evidence that Rebbie was born in Birmingham, apart from the statements on the 1901 and 1911 census. No Rebbie and no Rugg birth in the right time and place.

(I even looked at births with second name Letitia in Birmingham 1890-1891, and nope, a Violet Robinson and a Helena Rudge -- Helena is in the 1911 census.)

So you're going to get Lucas's birth certificate? All else is speculation without Jessie's name!

Do you actually have the 1876 marriage certificate? There's something dreadfully wrong with the wife's name. ;)

Douglaseanie Aymers. The given name -- is that a real name?? And Aymers is unique to Gateshead, only a dozen records in the early index, mainly births in Gateshead in the 1840s and 1850s, including

Births Dec 1854
Aymers Ann Gateshead 10a 431

But aha, Scottish -- 1871:

Name: Douglasioua Aymers
Age: 14
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1857
Relation: Daughter
Father's name: Robert Aymers
Mother's name: Christy Aymers
Where born: Scotland

Civil parish: Loughborough

Robert Aymers 35
Christy Aymers 36
Douglasioua Aymers 14
Ann Janet Aymers 12
John Aymers 10
Duncan Mc J Aymers 6

1861 in Portree, Invernessshire, per Ancestry:

Robe A Aymett 25
Christy Aymett 26
Douglasina Aymett 4
Ann Aymett 2
John Aymett 6 MO
Euphemia McIntosh 15

just for the record. ;)

Do you know the person who has Douglaseanie in their tree here at GR? You do know what became of her I guess.

Sorry i never got back to you had to go off the site for a while.

Jessie Jones is the mother of the younger siblings to Grace Emily Rugg. Found out the birth certs have been already bought.

About Douglaseanie Amyers, we know she married Joseph James Rugg and have her family details.

Also Samuel Rugg b1908 details son to Jessie and Joseph Rugg
I have found a Samuel rugg who was on passenger lists from Quebec with an apprentice named Emily Grace! she is 12 yrs old in 1882 - was this an illegitimate child by Samuel and then taken on by Joseph and Jessie?????
Well this maybe another problem to solve.

Is this of any help

Margaret

Thanks again

Yes thats the one.

So ... can you check your dates and such? You're not making it easy for us -- most things you give us are missing a crucial key piece of info!

"I have found a Samuel rugg who was on passenger lists from Quebec with an apprentice named Emily Grace! she is 12 yrs old in 1882 - was this an illegitimate child by Samuel and then taken on by Joseph and Jessie?????"

The Emily Grace we've been looking at here certainly wasn't born c1870 (12 years old in 1882).

Can you give full details when you post info? What is the date of that passenger list -- 1882? Travelling with Emily Grace what surname? Rugg?

Samuel born 1908 -- "Yes thats the one" -- very certainly wasn't travelling anywhere in 1882! and didn't have a child born 1870 ...

Here is our Joseph James in 1871

Name: Joseph J Rugg

> Father's name: Samuel Rugg
> Mother's name: Grace A Rugg
Where born: Triver, Cornwall, England
[Truro, Cornwall, England]

Civil parish: St Mary

Registration district: Southampton

Samuel Rugg 61
Grace A Rugg 62
Amelia G Rugg 26
Samuel J Rugg 21
Joseph J Rugg 18
Rebecca A Rugg 17

Parents Samuel and Grace, brother Samuel.

Do you know the person who has corrected the place of birth at Ancestry? No indication of their connection is given.

Mini - Report 19 May 2011 18:35

Sorry if i am misleading you, i am looking this up for a cousin, who i have access to her tree on the ancestry site, she was looking for Grace Emily Rugg birth details and had come to a brick wall on it.
I wasn't sure if she had the birth details of the siblings born after Grace Emily Rugg, Found out she had got the birth cert for all the younger children and they had the mother as Jessie Jones.

JaneyCanuck Report 19 May 2011 18:40

But can you answer those questions about the passenger record?

Interesting in 1881

Name: Amelia G. Rugg
Age: 36
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1845
Relation: Daughter
Father's name: Samuel Rugg
Mother's name: Grace A. Rugg
Where born: Southampton, Hampshire, England
Occupation: Vest Maker(Tailor)

Civil parish: Portsea

Samuel Rugg 70
Grace A. Rugg 72
Amelia G. Rugg 36

The names certainly seem to run in the family.

Is Jessie the mother of Leonard as well as the younger ones as I note there is a 5 year age gap ?

Mini -

Mini - Report 19 May 2011 18:52

As far as i know, the only one who is not the mother is Nora, she is the illegitmate child to Rebbie. no father named for this person.

JaneyCanuck Report 19 May 2011 19:04

Aaargh, Mini, that again makes no sense!

Rebbie was a *sister* of Leonard/Lucas. Her child doesn't come into it!

The question was who Leonard/Lucas's mother is -- your cousin would need the birth certificate for that.

Jessie and Joseph were together in 1901 though so it seems likely.

Frankly, I suspect that both Rebbie and Grace were born on this side of the Atlantic, whether Canada or the US, don't know. Possibly Jessie was as well.

Mini, you said you know that Douglaseanie Aymers Rugg came to "America". By herself, for definite, or with Joseph? Do you know when?

By the way, just to note: a big stumbling block here is the absence of a complete 1890 US census ... when Joseph could have been in the US.

Mini - Report 19 May 2011 19:21

Leonard Lucas birth cert states Jessie Jones is the mother.

Douglaseanie Aymers went to America with her mother and father in 1882
