with certificates in front of me I find my mother, her mother & father absent from both censuses.
I allowed 3 years either side of DOB, & investigated every possibile link. I know the address my mother was born at...but no joy. Is this unusual ? anyone please

Not everyone was counted on the census's. I suppose then, as today, people found it intrusive and avoided being counted. I suspect there are many people that use this site that have not been counted in every census, I know for certain that I have n't been included on every census.
There are certainly a number of people in my tree that have "disappeared" for twenty or even thirty years.

Can you tell us the name ,birth year etc...maybe someone will find them for you.

sometimes it is as simple as putting too much information


or a simple mistranscription by the transcriber

You can search on the original 1911 site for free ..... and I'm told that it is better than the search engine on findmypast, and much better than the one on GR

That's certainly a possibility. I also wonder how reliable some of the answers are on death certs. The uncle who gave info at my grandfather's death to the MD would be a suspect for inaccuracies. Some of the spelling errors on the censuses have had me in stitches & provided light relief.

as you can see, Barbara has done a sterling job of possibly / probably finding your family!


To be honest .................. most of us helpers do not recommend taking either Gold or Platinum membership in this site.

We all tend to have Standard membership on here, and use other sites for accessing records.

Either ancestry.co.uk or findmypast provide much better and more records, with much easier searching on them.

It appears that Ethel is transcribed as Leddon on GR.
