Teresa With Irish Blood in Me Veins Report 10 Apr 2008 18:55

I grew up in a village in Wiltshire...and wish we could afford to move back....Affordable houses for villagers...I don't thinks so!

As for city or town folk moving to the country...complaining about:

the cows mooing and leaving a mess on the road,
early morning cock crowing,
church bells ringing too loud,
deer, rabbits, moles destroying their garden,
farmyards smelling
etc,
etc,
etc.,.....Why move to the b****y country?

tory

tory Report 10 Apr 2008 18:59

you got it Teresa I'm in Dorset and thats just as it is here. All the thing I moved to the country for.

I am an Ex Londoner but moved to the West Country a few years ago as my First not second home. I have lived here several years now and have built up a nice network of freinds and have got used to how things are a little different, but I totally agree with you.

Every few Sundays I am lucky enough to be invited to a shoot (Clay not Animals) on a local farm and although its cold its a laugh and the Farmer whos land it is makes some burgers for afterwards hes really nice.

Of late I hadnt been invited and politely enquired if I had upset someone (maybe my Pink CAT boots) anyway I havent .......some STUPID person has moved close to the farm and has complained about the noise of the shoot so its less frequent now!!

How stupid is that - the farm has been there centurys - the shoot as far as I know has been going on for Decades and no its not a snobby corporate thing, its locals getting together having a chat and a shoot (all licenced and very strict) and a burger afterwards and gives the farmer a few extra quid in his back pocket - everyone happy.

I am furious! This person should have known about the shoots before they moved in and I am fuming the farmer has had to reduce them because of the noise! Its the Damn Countryside! If you move here you should embrace they ways or s*d off back to where you come from.

Whatever next - the Cows Moo to loud?

The reason these ( I'll be polite ) people with money move to the country for 2nd homes or just to live is an excuse for them to buy a bleeding gert big 4x4 which they cant drive properly .

Twizzle ;-))))))))))))))))

Maddiecow Report 10 Apr 2008 19:27

Twizzle you know they can even buy Designer Mud in a spray can on Ebay! PMPL!!!

Oh how they should have been me last Friday when my car was covered by a Muck sprayer as I was going up an A Rd!! I was not best pleased but it comes with the turf! You grin hope you get good luck and go to the carwash.

Oh how I hate people who complain about the workings of the countryside. Why on earth dont they just go back where they came from and leave the houses for the local young couples who are having to move out of the area because they cant afford to stay. I tell them to put up with anything they dont like or move. Some incomers are great and want to learn, take to country life and join in local events, others want to take over everything. Jean

Hmmmm •°o♥ Mad Mum of 4 ♥o°• I was going through the back roads from Oxford to Bristol ......

tory

tory Report 10 Apr 2008 19:33

My Oh drives a 4x4 but if you spent a winter round here you would need one lost trak of the roads that he has cleared and the people and there cars out of ditches .the rivers overflow as do the ditches so would be lost without it and Oh would never get to work without it.But yes most are very clean and they don't drive them well.
As for the shots it doesn't surprise me in the least that they complain.I am glad to here you have fitted in in afraid most round here look down there noses keep within their group get on to school commitee and price locals out of events for fundraising and use the school as a free prep.

Victoria I live in a small terrace and am no better than anyone else (well apart from the local scoungers who's kids drive better cars than the rest of us - have nicer things and have never worked (legally) but are not disabled either). They hack the hole rd off but thats a hole different thread.

I am lucky to have moved to a nice freindly place have wonderful neighbours (thats something you always take with life in hands when you move) have a local shop which is the hub of the community, work locally and am 100% glad of my lifestyle change.

I'm lucky I am on the boarders of the city and the countryside and couldnt pick a better loction to live, work and play.

maggiewinchester Report 10 Apr 2008 19:50

Until I moved here I had lived in the country for most of my life, either in small villages or hamlets. Moved here as I don't drive, local shops were closing and buses were becoming rarer and rarer.
Not only have I heard the ridiculous complaints as stated above - combining too early, cocks crowing, church bells ringing, noise of shoots (although even I complained once when they were shooting in my garden outside my loo window - and I was on the loo!!)
I have also been on the receiving end of 'incomer' patronisation!
Just before I had my first child, I was an agricutural worker, ex and agricultural engineer. Certain 'incomers' were under the false impression that this meant we were uneducated!!
My eldest would never wear gloves, it was cold and her hands were red. This 'worthy' incomer accused me of not keeping her warm enough!!
Poor child was lifted from her pushchair, the mini sleeping bag (feather & down) made by my fair hands, that she was in was shown to old bag. THEN she said her jacket was too small. Jacket (bolero type - very trendy at the time) was undone to show padded dungarees that went way above the bottom of the jacket. I pointed out they were good quality. She replied 'If you say so' , So label was exposed - Harrods!! I asked if that was good enough quality or did she know a better place to buy!! LOL

Then, after I had had daughter number 2 she asked whose she was - When I pointed out she was mine - she said 'I didn't know you were pregnant' I asked why she had to know, and would she like to know next time I had sex, in case I bred again, as I intended repopulating the village with yokels!!

Our village like so many is being ruined - one road in particular had a mix of houses and ages - so many houses have been knocked down and where there was one there is now 4 or perhaps two blocks of flats - latest I see are 2 bungalows next door to each other bought by developers - all of these properties have large gardens.
