We used to have a shop that sold everything in our village but it closed years ago. Our little post office now has a small shop and it's great for basics. Fortunately it isn't due to close but we were worried until recently. |

Know of a garage and repair shop in a village - a small development was built next door and one day one of the owners appeared and introduced himself to the garage owner and whilst chatting said I believe you are selling up and will be gone by next year. Garage owner was bemused and said 'don't know where you got your info but I am here to stay - I am third generation and the fifth is following on'! We reckon it was the estate agents! |

They are supposed to be putting through a law to protect gardens as it is a loophole and gardens and knocking down dwellings is regarded a using a brownfield site! To me a brownfield site is ex industrial or when houses are no longer viable and require rebuilding as against refurbishing. |

Mac I was not haveing ago at all people that move to the country .I myself was town breed .My point was that some and far to many that move in do not fit in they try to bend the communitee to what they want, instead of embracing the life as you and your OH obviously did. |

Our village like so many is being ruined - one road in particular had a mix of houses and ages - so many houses have been knocked down and where there was one there is now 4 or perhaps two blocks of flats - latest I see are 2 bungalows next door to each other bought by developers - all of these properties have large gardens. |

Until I moved here I had lived in the country for most of my life, either in small villages or hamlets. Moved here as I don't drive, local shops were closing and buses were becoming rarer and rarer. |

Victoria I live in a small terrace and am no better than anyone else (well apart from the local scoungers who's kids drive better cars than the rest of us - have nicer things and have never worked (legally) but are not disabled either). They hack the hole rd off but thats a hole different thread. |

My Oh drives a 4x4 but if you spent a winter round here you would need one lost trak of the roads that he has cleared and the people and there cars out of ditches .the rivers overflow as do the ditches so would be lost without it and Oh would never get to work without it.But yes most are very clean and they don't drive them well. |
