Just to update this enquiry, Robert Crawford was born/baptised 15.3.1844 in Scotland and by 1859 he was on a ship called “Edinburgh”.
This is a friend’s family, and she has the details.
Thank you for all your help.

This week she visited Robert Crawford’s last known address in Midleton, cork. It is still standing but empty, and had become a fishing tackle shop.
This address was given by a family member who remembered visiting there. What can be dug up!!

There is no baptism record on Scotlands People, nor on Family Search, for any Robert Crawford on 15/3/1844 anywhere in Scotland.

Where did your friend find the date, please?
