Hi Carol,

The wind has got up a bit here (Essex) and it's coming from the East, so snow is on the cards.... I certainly know what it's like to be cold now... still have no heating.

No snow here yet (and I'm on high ground), but it's very cold. No gritters out, so it's BOUND to snow!!

Does anyone know why councils don't grit pavements? I would have thought encouraging people to walk rather than take their car would be useful in icy weather. They never grit the pavements, and rarely grit the roads round where I live so the bus doesn't run and pedestrians take their lies in their hands trying to walk on the pavements whilst watching out for sliding cars!!

Maggie,

I read somewhere that if you fall over on a gritted surface you can sue the local auhtority but if its on an untreated surface then 'its an act of God'' and you cant...might be urban myth mind you
