Hello, lol Catherine. My daughter has told everyone at her school she's 'Romany not English'. I didnt think anything of it, she's always trying to learn the Romani language. But at hometime today one notorious family were smirking at me, 'She should be in a tent not a house', 'Well we know where the kids nits come from then' etc. Im dreading going to that school now. Half that family live on my street, they have a bit of a bad reputation for stealing etc (well I may be part gypsy but I dont steal!) and I always see them around. One of the women is 18 with 3 kids, and she was stood there glaring at me. I take things so personally, I cant understand why we deserve this.

PS, one of the teenage boys in this family stole our patio set in the summer, so I think they see us as a bit vulnerable. Im almost the only person on my street who wasnt born in my village, so it does make us outsiders a bit.

They carry on go and see the head-not nice doing it infront of the kids-makes you wonder why kids grow up with predjuices when they hear the grown ups gossiping-

Your little girl has every right to be proud of her heritage, and you too.

My son had quite a time at school because of his Jewishness , and his Irishness, and it was hard for me. He was that bit bigger and would not let me interfere.

However you sort it out Romany Star.... you and your little girl MUST STILL BE PROUD.

Forgot to say..... some of the Romany Caravans I have seen are so neat and tidy.... they put me to shame.

If they can keep their childrens homes as clean as that in the tiny spaces they have...... what is wrong with me????;-0(

Hold ya head high honey and be proud of who you are and where you have come from. You are a beautiful lady and are soooooooo much better than them. Bullies deep inside are very insecure, and remember what goes around comes around.

I suppose they think they are better than you now......it is human nature I am afraid, perhaps they are so used to being bottom of the pile and now they feel they can point the finger because you are Romany.....

Gypsies and Romanies have had a bad press over the years and are labelled with all sorts of problems......perhaps they think you are trying to keep quiet about it......and that your daughter has let the 'family secret' slip out.......instead of the truth.....that you are really proud of who you are and your exotic heritage......

To my mind the best way to approach this - if anything is said - is to say how proud you are of your history.......hold your head high.......I think this family are just hitting back at all the gossip and problems they must have, and think you will be ashamed.......which you are NOT......x

PS.....don't please be rude back to them, just be proud.....that will shut them up.....

They are nice arent they Deanna.They had different bowls to wash in and didnt allow dogs inside, etc. My gg grandad bought a cinema that was closing down and gave it to the village, he wasnt a thief or conman etc. It made me laugh about the 'nits' comment, because my kids havent got them, yet the woman who made the comment is always scratching her own head, lol.

I wouldnt be rude Sally, although Im tempted. I'd be likely to get a brick through the window.
