Gwyn,
Ditto for decor apart from the bottom of ours was shiny red.
Also the stairs were painted red and we all said it was because a girl had fell down the stairs and died when the school first opened (1910).
Our school and the infants had Bell towers on the roof, apparently the juniors was haunted by the headless horseman and the infants by the gray lady, or it might have been the other way around. Needless to say they never made an appearence but we still managed to scare ourselves silly. lol

I remember playing tennis where we quickly latched on to the fact that if we lobbed the ball over the fence into the park next to our school,the teacher sent us to look for it ----which meant a pleasant stroll in the sunshine,chatting to your mate just long enough for the lesson to be over,when you would "suddenly"spot the tennis ball lying in the grass lol
