my laptop keeps going blank.then i have to turn it off and start again............help

hi suzi,yes its not that kind of blank.i can hear pc doing stuff but the pic goes a bluey blank.....lol

Bluey blank could be the blue screen of death - are you getting any dos prompts?

suggest if you can do a disk cleanup, virus and spyware scan, and defrag, re-boot and if it still does it, do a disk scan.

If that shows up a problem, you're *****d

My old laptop was the same.Mine got drunk on a glass of wine and never recovered from its hangover.It works when it feels like it but does just the same as yours.Keep saying i am going to take it to the shop. Annie

Right your in luck poppet......I've looked in my 'Internet for Dummies' book.
The problem could be that it is in serious need of a holiday, the blank screen you are mentioning would suggest the Bahamas. Now cos your a mate, (and I know how busy you are), if you book it up then I'm willing to take it....

Just a suggestion but anything's worth a try. My Dad has got a new laptop with Vista on it, and he has got Scrabble on CD-rom which he used to play on his old computer. If he tries to play it on the new laptop, Vista doesn't like it and the blue screen of death comes up. You haven't got a disc in your drive that's causing something similar have you?

Joy,I have a new laptop and its vista.I tried to install my printer and yes it did not work and nor did laptop.Dont know what hubby did to get it back working.He is out tonight so if i find out will let you know tomorrow. annie

Vista is the latest in Windows type thingys - I have three pcs here on 2000 - 2 Laptops on XP - Which I hate and I am fesing Vista at the mo.

When you boot up click on the blue - help and about and it should let you know what windows package you are on.

Vista is the latest Windows operating system and if your laptop is new, that's *probably* what you've got. I say probably, because you can still buy a new machine with Windows XP, but they're usually Vista now.

OH suggests that you go to the Microsoft website and check that you've got the latest Service Pack update installed on your laptop. If not, then download and install it (should be free) but if you already have, then it might be a trip back to where you bought the laptop....:(
