Take it back as soon as you can and explain your probs. Whats confusing me most is you are posting - or is that an another pc?

no i can post.but it just keeps going green or blue.then i turn it off and restart and its ok for a bit.
but i need to copy all my stuff to cd,before i send it to the shop.coz they,ll wipe it,so im told.i have all my things on here,and ive never copied to disk before.im also not good when peeps use pc words.

without being too nosey hwo much do you want to keep? If its just photos and Word and stuff is simple - if you want to keep your emails and things is going to be more technical.

A gentle tap with a sledge hammer might work or you could check the graphics card driver.

BUT I HAVE CERTS.NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS PICS THE LOT.AND I WANT TO PUT IT ALL ON DISC THAT WAY IF THEY DECIDE TO WIPE MY PC,IVE GOT ALL MY STUFF.

Is the laptop hibernatiing? You need to check the power settings to see what the hibernation time is set at. Not sure how to do that in Vista, on XP its under contgrol panel/power options

sounds logical keith - I was thinking more complicated but now you mention that its highly likely.

Have you got some CDS hun to burn too? Also daft Q I know but if its a new laptop - did someone load all your stuff on for you? If so you may already have most of it backed up on disk - i mean cd I am showing me age.

If you have a blank cd slip it in and open
one of your certs - then click save as and you will get a choice of drives click on your cd and copy it. If that works for you then you got a starting point to copy your files.

keith its weird coz im working away on it then the screen goes either blue or green.i can hear things happening ,like people signing on to msn etc.its like ive touched a button and stopped the screen working.

sounds like it is not hibernating then if you can still hear things, when it hibernates, the screen goes blank and all shuts down.How long has it been on? As Carol said, it could be the graphics card, but maybe it is getting too warm and needs a rest lol

i have xl-11 80 music cds.
then i have 3 dvd+rewritable [???]
120 mins.

jeeze i am so dense.

dvd can hold more than the music cd try that that but for goodness sake if its rewritable be careful not to overwrite it at a later date.

its been on since about 3.30.
my son had a normal pc ,his never did this.xx

I have to go to bed soon but copying to a cd is very straightforward am sure lots of people will help you.

Joy, my wifes laptop has the same problem, is it on a desk or table or are you using it on your lap? The airflow if critical around it, if it gets too warm, it overheats and all sorts of things can happen. Just switch off and let it cool down.

ITS ON A DESK WITH LOTS OF FOLDERS ROUND IT,AND A PRINTER SO IT DOES FEEL WARM,IVE JUST NICKED SONS EMPTY FAG PKT AND STUCK IT UNDERNEATH,AND MOVED FOLDERS ETC.I THINK IT COULD BE THAT.....SORRY IM SHOUTING AGAIN.LOL.
WILL TRY TO DO THE COPYING TOMOZ.AS ITS GETTING LATE.

Hi Joy

When me laptop from work went blank they advised me to switch off and remove the battery underneath and leave it for twenty minutes then replace battery and cor blimey it worked!!

turn over laptop and is lots of pressy things and if you press the right one out pops the battery!
