I to have a son who will be 20 on Thursday.
He was not the easiest child growing up as he had a few problems A D H D, Behavourial disorder , Hyperactivity, and Torrettes Syndrome, i went through hell with him growing up but like Josh Chris has turned his life around and got a job and a flat of his own a nice girlfriend and is happy now but i have been through what you have just gone through my house turned upside down and left for me to clear up another case of mistaken identity, but it was a family member who when got caught said his name was chris in fact it was his cousin and they look very much alike as there is strong family genes. Hence to say i complained and both me and my son got an apology from the police. So Caz chin up and all will be ok and tell Josh to keep his spirits up and i hope you are both okay. My thoughts are with you Pauline in Ipswich xxxxx.

i know how you feel something happen the same with one of my sons the police came took him away said he had robbed supermarket.but he was watching the fireman putting out afire in one of the niebours houses and all the people in the street told the police this and they let him go but its upsetting for the family and the young man in question,hope your son and you will be ok but do conplain

sorry to hear of your troubles Caz but as I also have a 17 year old son I have ound it quite interesting to read all of the replies. So far my son has not been in any trouble that I know of but my 2 older girls have both caused the police to visit our house while they were growing up. So thank you for putting this thread up. Good luck with y our complaints and I do hope he follows through with his army ambitions.
Woody, I think the term joyriding has now become TWOCing or TWOCers.

Seems more appropriate than joyriding.

Just seen this Caz...what an awful thing to happen to your son, especially when he had got his act together......it makes you think....why bother.....please show him we all support him and are pleased that he has done so well.....

Hi Caz - Just read this. So sorry to hear the shock and stress you and your family have experienced.

Wondered if it was worth contacting your MP to take up your complaint. Or the Borough Councillor who sits on police committee etc? When I worked for Local Gov. any kind of complaint coming from MP or Councillor had to be given priority and careful response.

Caz, only just read this.

As the mother of an 18-year-old boy, I would be absolutely fuming if he was treated in that way by the police, regardless of any past history.

I can also understand how this could knock your boy's confidence, they should be supporting him in his endeavours to get his life on track, not slapping him down.

You complain Caz, you have 100% grounds for doing so, and I hope somebody throws the book at those who left him cold, hungry and thirsty.

Oh Caz, I'm so sorry for you all.
There but for the grace of God go I - Neither of my children ever got into trouble, thank heavens.

However, I know of others that haven't been so lucky.
We have a lad of 18 working for us. He has been written off by everyone - even his father seems to have little time for him. Since the age of 13 he has been in and out of trouble - mostly car theft and "joy-riding" (hate the term - it's anything but joyful if there's an accident and someone is hurt). You will probably know the punishments he has received.
We took a chance on him because his father asked us to but I must say I had little hope.
Since last August he has not been late for work even once. He has had a week off because of illness but phoned and kept us informed - more than some of the others have done! The police are regular customers - and one asked us if we "had a problem with that one". We told him the truth - the boy has been an excellent employee.
He's not been in trouble in the last year and the police no longer lift him every time a car goes missing. That said - their job is a lot easier now as there's no doubt he had been a problem!!

Didn't mean to go on and on and on!! Your son will come good and hopefully the police will lay off him.

If it was my son I would definitely complain but I fully understand your trepidation.

about 2 months ago 3 police cars pull up outside my house , me being nosey thought i would investigate (as one does) i opened my front door and the police was there ,
they asked for my son , i said he wasnt here , they said can we check inside . i said eh if you tell me why you want him i will , they said hes wanted for assult . i said on who , they said hes mother lol
i said i think i would know if he had assulted me DURRR they still came in and checked
they even looked in my kitchen draw , i said hes not tom thumb.
then i said just get out hes not here hes out and hes not wanted .
apparently the local plastic bobby had stopped my son earlier asked his name and thats how it happened same name same age but different people . that was a bit long winded , u shouls deffo take it further

Not been down that way today Caz was choppy the other day though.
Oh I could write a book on that lot I told them one day instead of roaming about her go up the club get the drink drivers go under he pier get the addicts Oh no that would be hard work pick onthe kids that do nothing.
One of them is still with the police seemingly not as bad now and the other I think got into bother and had to leave.
Supoose there are good and bad like everything else.
Trouble was round here not sure if they still do they used to get a lot of trainees and a lot of time they don't know what they are doing.
Did you know that if even if you have passed your test you can't have a pillion. :-) still laugh about that one.

THANKYOU for telling you story with your lad. When my lad was being tempted with drugs, I gave addresses etc and NOTHING happened,

My feeling is.....go for easy crime figures and leave the more serious stuff, hence why our country is the way it is....

Caz just seen this I think you must complain .
My Lad was hounded as a teenager by two patricular police men. Too much to try and write here but.
He didn't do wrong just rode a motorcylce and they had it in for all the lads.
One day my son said oh you will have another to pick on my sister gets a bike next week not your sister we are after they said it is you, anyway this went on for 2 years. In the end I started to make a log of every time he was stopped and checked where he was etc.
Anyway he was in a bad road accident ( not his fault) and they went to the scene they were heard to say. Right let's check his bike see what we can get him for . Nothing his bikes were never less than perfect. The lad that heard offered to go and speak up but like you we were afraid of him being picked on. Luckily we had a police man lived in our street would never have bothered him before but this had gone too far. So I told him what had happened and he got one of the two in the locker room told him lay off this is a quiet word down here next time it wil be a loud word upstairs. They left my lad alone after that.
I do hope you get this sorted the way your lad was treated was well out of line. Nww if he was a drug dealer they would probably be best friends with him. He is trying to get his life back on track well done to him. Don't let the beggars wear him down.
Right rant over. I get so annoyed whnn I see this sort of thing and see what is happening around town.
