Not had a good day : (

You all know me, heart on sleeve kinda lady ( lol ) Im posting this for advice..... many of you here are wonderful trusted friends and I know you'll help.

My lad of almost 17 ( one whose applied for army ) has had a troubled past and was in trouble with the police a few times, for which I paid and am still paying the fines.

He has sorted himself and for 20 months has been great;working hard, head down, maturing etc,

7.30 this morning CID are hammering on our door, to arrest Josh for something they wouldnt explain apart from theft.I was waiting for my Dad to pick me up to get Abi to school, Will to Mum in laws as hes ill and me to work as I have no car this week....

more in a min....

Cumbrian Caz~**~ Report 18 Sep 2007 19:40

Josh was taken away, CID said theyd be back to search his room and he needed an adult to be interviewed....

When they came back, they turned his room upside down, left it in an utter mess and I had to go. They told my Dad to come back and theyd go to cop shop with him. My dad came back and house was empty. He went home called station and left his number to be contacted as soon as he was needed. The message WASNT passed to CID. Josh was left for 7 hours with no food, cold with only a tee shirt on in a cell, no phone call alllowed,

He was offered a drink after 3 hours. My Dad was called at 2.15 and it was a case of mistaken identity, the CCTV footage for a sat nave stolen from a car LOOKED like Josh,

There was no apology, nothing, my Dads disgusted, so am I and Josh is very low. Was he mistreated??

What the problem Caz, will help if I can.

I think you/your son have a good case for a complaint.
Did he have a Duty Solicitor?

Mmmm, I would say so, isn't he still classed as a child - or is that 16 and under.

I would complain and see where it gets you.........

I don't know the workings of all this, but there must be a way of making a formal complaint on his treatment. Surely its not right to treat a suspect who is helping with inquiries (I think thats how they word it) like that, with not even a drink?

Different if he had been charged I supposed, but as they have admitted mistaken identity, I wouldhave thought there would be reason for formal complaint.

If not sure, get some advice from the C.A.B. tomorrow.

caz,
just seen this, deffo complain, you get in touch with head of that police station tell them you want to make a formal complaint, you have to fill in forms but you'll find they dont stick together in these cercomstances, then it goes to the independent complaints commission, long winded i know, some one from a different station will then come and go through everthing again with you, then the complaint will be sorted out and the officers will have permonant records of their conduct....................... it does work ive done it twice one of the officers was relocated because of what happened no one trusted him.......................
please deffo complain....

hi caz

its a disgrace they go in hand over fist and wen they get itwrong they dont apologise

my daughter was arrested at a friends house and her two mates they sent two unmarked cars for three 14 year olds... they didnt even phone or call and let us no even tho we only live about three hundred yards away from were they were picked up..

me and her dad went to the police station they made us wait hour before we could see
her they had put her in a cell she was petrified she had never been in a police station b4. they took her dna finger prints and photo .. they even had them do a video
and they put it with thirty others . she was in the cells for nine hours all becouse they
said one of them had took 2 pound off a lad
they got bailed and had to go back a few days later wen the lad had picked out who it was my daughter and one of the other girls
was found to be innecent and they didnt get an apology either my daughter was quiet for a wile afterwoods.. so i know what your going threw but the same nite a fella had been accused of a sexual offence and they didnt even put him in the cells a women pc was talking to him in the corridor and he even had a coffee in his hand double standards if you ask me

Oh Caz , Until your son is 18 he is considered a minor and must be treated accordingly by the police . Ask for a copy of the report made including the interview . Then ask for a formal letter from them stating it was a case of mistaken identity . Also insist that any record of interview etc has this added or is removed from any record held . Also ask that your local police officer comes to see you both and explains . Its been proved that the police are more worried about figures than real crime prevention , don,t let your son become a victim of statistics . There for you ... XXX Kim

Thanks Donna,

Double standards exactly, my lad and Dad who is 75 didnt even get an apology, it stinks, they need to chase the real scum of society instead of following tenous leads to boost their all important, crime figures,

Love to your lass btw,
