Yes.
It's amazing the amount of different accents there are. Gazillions of them.

I guess it goes way way back to the language influences of those who invaded our country, and our ancestors who brought those accents down through the years to us.

apparently I have a dialect rather than an accent. Well me and the rest of the place. We have an East Durham Dialect dontcha know?

Also some words we use round here are said to be of pitmatic origin.
An example is :
"Hoy a hammer hower here hinny"
translates in english as:
"Could you please pass me a hammer, my dear?"

things like bread rolls ...some say rolls...we say barm cakes..

we get a loaf some get bread...

we say stottie cakes for flat, round bread, I think it's Barm cakes in yorkshire.
We also call our mothers "Mam" and not Mum.
