Ladylol Pusser Cat Report 11 Sep 2007 10:44

im finding something upsetting at the moment, as you know i have fm, and have just been diagnosed with arthritus of the spine and knees, waiting for results to confirm which type it is, but what is upestting me is 2 long term friends that i know i have been there for in the past, costing me time and money i didnt really have but loved them enough to do it seem to have walked away since the new diagnosis, whilst i dont make a point of talking about my pain when we are out pub etc, i do let them know about hosp and results so they are aware when we are out , im not able to geton the table and dance anymore or go raving at a club, but just prefer a drink and chat with friends which takes my mind of the pain when the medicinal booze kicks in on a friday, i use my stick constantly and if people ask what for i just say ive hurt myleg in a fall, rather than bring others down when we are out to have a break from our lives at home and work.
i agree with people pain is your pain, whilst we are all aware there is always someone else worse of, it dos'nt make your pain anymore easier, at the moment im content with my home life son has settled well into college which was my biggest worry and im lucky i have specky as a husband and friend who understands and we can enjoy each others componey as long as he aggrees with everything i say and do
this is a wonderfull thread and hope it helps you all xx

my heart goes out to those with chronic pain.

i broke my arm 2 weeks ago(,hence lower case, one hand typing)
the pain i was in was so great, i can just imagine what you are going through night and day.

at least i can see a light at the end of the tunnel, and the plaster on my arm is just a hindrance, i call it my albatross.

im not looking for sympathy honest but i need to speak about it , as well as everything else i have wrong , just been told i have stenosis of the spine etc, and its one of the worst pains you can have, ( guessed that ) but wondered.
im totaly fed up and shocked at this lates news, as if the fm and arthritis wernt enuf to contend with, one conslolation at least they find causes for my pain, why me im only 40 but then again have had pain for most of life so nothing new i feel sick it took me ages to except the FM , well im off for a sleep i hope i bounce back to my jolly self when i wake , will have a little cry in my pillow lol. , glad i accepted the morphine now at least i can have a break now and again.

I am very very lucky in that I have always enjoyed good health, and I value it above all else (and I know that it is not guaranteed to last). My heart goes out to all of you who suffer chronic pain, I wish that you could all be free from it - and I will try to be more understanding of anyone in a similar situation (as you say, it isn't always obvious that someone suffers chronic pain).

Puss, I am so sorry to hear that, I am sure the pain must be excrutiating and I do admire you for mostly retaining your sense of humour and being able to rise above it. Back pain is horrid, I suffer very bad back pain and, so far, nobody has really given me a real reason for it. It can't be as bad as yours because I mostly manage without painkillers, just gritting my teeth, so when my back hurts I will think of you and know mine is not so bad really. Hope a sleep helps and you feel a bit better soon.

I often wish I had a pain meter stuck on my forehead!

As well as not understanding pain - people dont understand the bouts of depression that come with most long-term illnesses.

I thought I would nudge this up for the people who are in pain. It dates back to 2007 but GR wont let me edit the title to say so - sorry.

Oh has suffered from back pain sssssssfor over 50 yrs, after a bayonet went into his back and damaged the nerves. He is very good at managing it, but needs to sit in a high chair. Who has those nowadays, very few we find. I have a lot of pain and am good at managing with the help of co-codamol and determination. I have to walk with 2 sticks as my back will not support me far. I use a long handled brush and dustpan for small jobs, but have bent the brush all ways from using them to hold me up! But I look fine, and as said, no one believes that you have anything wrong.
