What about Steptoe?oooops, someone else said that.

My top ten would be - Fawlty Towers Steptoe & Son (before your time, Andy, and a bit too far Sarf!) Blackadder Open All Hours The Good Life One Foot in the Grave Porridge Desmond's (again a throwback to Sarf London roots) No Place Like Home The Rag Trade (Anyone remember that from the 1960s? - Reg Varney, Miriam Karlin & Barbara Windsor) After last weekend, I really do think there's reams of material for another stunning comedy series in the offing!!! CB >|< P S Thanks again for the book. Andy - Just noticed this thread's age and who's on it - that's probably why it got nudged - so I could see his name.

Flippin 'eck, couldn't you find an older thread to revive?!?! Just joking, are they planning to hold another survey on this then?

Can't choose, I like them all..

Sue, That's more or less how I feel about Only Fools.. I do like it but my enjoyment of it has been diluted somewhat due to the Beeb relying on it far too often to plug a gap in the TV schedules.

I used to love Only Fools but they've been repeated so often I can't stand to see another episode! How come Allo' Allo' did'nt make the Top Ten - priceless!! Of the rest I can't decide between Dibley and Black Adder! Sue

Totally agree Daren about porridge but weren't all the main cast brilliant? Richard Beckinsale, Fulton Mackay as Mr Mackay (favourite) and the others ? Its timeless Bob

Has to Porridge for me, closely followed by Fawlty Towers. Ronnie Barker is brilliant as Fletcher. I used to love the Young Ones, when i was at school, but watching it now I can't see what was funny about it! God i'm turning into my Dad :-( Darren (Nuneaton) (feeling old)

Lindy

Lindy Report 13 Mar 2004 22:59

It has to be The Vicar of Dibley!! Both Hubby and I have gotten used to saying "Ahh! !No!No! "Fawlty Towers" we have seen various times over the last twenty years. Either I am getting old or Basil is getting on my nerves. The best of course has to be " hello! hello!" I don't t think that I spelt that right but I am sure someone will correct me. Lindy: -)))

I used to love watching the Boswells in the sitcom bread

Open All Hours comes under the microscope tonight on BBC2, which I'll look forward to watching as it's one of my faves. I think though that Only Fools... has to be the favourite to win, it is a national institution and appeals to so many different cross sections of society. I personally don't think it's the best in terms of humour, but each sitcom isn't being judged on just humour alone.

We love 'Allo 'Allo. It's just finished its re-run here in NZ.

Crista, I'd definitely agree that those choices deserve a mention, in particular, Father Ted, which was dementedly brilliant and had many funny moments. "DRINK!!!" Also a fan of Alan Partridge, Spaced and Red Dwarf, although these would probably be deemed "cultish".

Brian Report 2 Mar 2004 21:15

what about AUF WIEDESEIN PET and the classic STEPTOE AND SON ????

Crista
