Haribo Report 4 Apr 2005 14:58

Glitter served only 4 months in 1999 for paedophilia and has since been living in Cambodia ( kicked out of Cuba). He is planning a Party to celebrate his return to the UK and reckons that he has served his time and should be allowed to live out his life in the country where he was born..........Scandalous

Would it be wrong to say I hope he spontaneously combusts and just disappears up his own in a puff of smoke?

Sarah Report 4 Apr 2005 15:05

Surely once a sentence has been served a person is deemed to have paid the price to society for their crime? Or do you believe everyone convicted of a criminal offence should be paraded for life with 'guilty' tattooed upon their person?

Perhaps he could take his guests with him. Is Jonathan King on the list? Jacky

He shouldnt be allowed anywhere, he gave up his right to be treated like a human being when he decided to pursue his perverted cravings.

JackyJ1593 Report 4 Apr 2005 15:08

Sarah, Normally I would agree totally with you, but with some offences, especially of this nature, I really do not believe this to be the case. I hope I am wrong. Jacky :-)

Sarah Report 4 Apr 2005 15:10

Everyone has the right to be treated like a human being, regardless of what they have done - that's what living in a democracy is all about.

Maybe he can go and live in Neverland with M.J.

Just as every child has the right to live unmolested.

Sarah normally i would agree about most criminals but in my opinion paedophiles are people who cannot be rehabilitated and therefore there will always be the strong probablility they will do it again.

PinkDiana

PinkDiana Report 4 Apr 2005 15:16

Unfortunately this man has an illness and unless we can say he is cured then he is a danger to CHILDREN..... and i for one would hate any child to be put thru this purely because we couldn't stop this creature from returning to our shores!

Sarah

Sarah Report 4 Apr 2005 15:21

Yes paedophilia is an illness, but what would you all suggest? If he is a danger to children then he is a danger in whatever country he is living - why should another country have to live with our 'rejects' just because we don't feel we can protect our own children well enough? And yes I am a mother - I would personally want to string up anyone who came near my daughter, but morally I would hope to be above that kind of animalistic behaviour. Two wrongs never did make a right.

I think this is a discussion I shall have to bow out of now before I do a second disappearing act.

Apparentley Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia where he has been living, is a haven for paedophiles where £3 buys sex with girls as young as 11........source, Sunday Mirror.

Guinevere Report 4 Apr 2005 16:02

Hi, I don't think that paedophilia is an illness. If it were paedophiles could be sectioned under the mental health act and kept in secure hospitals until 'cured'. It seems to be regarded as a personality disorder and as such is untreatable. Criminals most likely to re-offend are those convicted of sexual offences. It seems to me that there is a big gap in our legal system and maybe legislation is neccessary to ensure that those suffering from certain 'personality disorders' are kept locked up until they are no longer a danger to others or are dead.
