i enjoyed that one too Laura and I too read it on holiday. At the moment reading Katie Fforde's Wild designs which is quite light but enjoyable. 3 others i have read lately all very good: Tatiana and Alexandra by Paullina Simons set in russia and New York, a war romance, a bit graphic about the war in places but very readable. The other two both by Caro Frazer and both in a series 1. Judicial whispers set among solicitors and law courts, and 2. An Immoral code. romance and intrigue. Ann Glos

Anyone else loev James Michener's historical novel blockbusters - you MUST try at lease one..and don't be put off the 1000+ pages...you end up wishing it went on longer! Try 'Chesapeake Bay' or 'Hawaii' for starters. And what about the ultimate Good Book? William

I read a lot but due to concentration problems, I only read lightweight stuff now - mostly 'chick lit' I'm afraid (but better than nothing I suppose!). I was afraid to read 'PS I love you' when I realised what it was about - I thought I might get too upset, what do those who've read it think? Love stuff like Bridget Jones, the Shopaholic series, Maeve Binchy, Marian Keyes (in fact all the Irish authors). Admittedly I did try to get a bit cultured and got halfway through a book on the Christchurch Union Workhouse, and Eats Shoots & Leaves! Mandy :)

Laura Fiction I enjoyed Tracy 'Girl with a pearl earring' Chevalier's 'The Virgin Blue' - about an American woman tracing her French Hugenot ancestors. Fact Currently reading 'Sex with kings:five hundred years of adultery, power, rivalry and revenge' by Eleanor Herman. It's an American import and a cracking read - makes no intellectual demands, is witty and informative. Mainly about the mistresses of Louis XIV and Louis XV of France, but also discusses many other monarchs including Charles II and our own Prince of Wales and Camilla. It looks at life from the viewpoint of the mistress, the king and the queen, the mistresses' husbands, etc. and the moral values of the time. It doesn't pull any punches, here is the author talking about the Edward VIII-Wallis Simpson affair: 'While Wallis's fascination with the king was understandable, no one could comprehend his violent passion for a woman whose face resembled the metal part of a garden shovel and her body the wooden handle'. nell

Anything by Lee Child, his Reacher series is really good, i have just finished his latest one 'One Shot'. Also the Manda Scott series is really good if you like a bit of history and fiction combined, her Boudica series is impossible to put down. Yvette

Bev, I'm not laughing - did you know everyone knows the story but hardly anyone has read it - I've got the book but only done one chapter, maybe I should put that right. Actually I was so into the Left Behind series, it left me with such withdrawal symtons that I ended up reading all the kids versions of it [all 40 books] hubby would have a fit if he worked out how much I spent on all of them in total.
