Bird's Eye frozen peas (haven't found any others as good) Comfort Pure fabric conditioner (any other...even hypoallergenic...brings out my younger daughter in spots) We use a lot of own brand stuff and I find most of it is very good. When my kids were little they were perfectly happy with the cheap baked beans. A lot of the things I can buy really cheaply in Lidls are very good. Their chocolate icecream with chockie bits in is gorgeous. I agree about the decent PG Tips looseleaf tea though. We're not keen on tea bags. We make our tea extra nice with a tiny amount of Lapsang Souchong added to it. Sue

Linen Report 1 Jun 2005 01:01

Hey Jenny, you're not fussy then!!! Do you find the Kingsmill from Iceland is fresher than from other places also? I don't understand why but here in Taunton, thats the way it is. I've just realised what the time is, think I'd better go to bed or won't be up for work in the moning. Night all Vivienne

Guinevere Report 1 Jun 2005 08:22

We do our basic shopping in Tescos and I never buy their own brand stuff. Tried their own brand beans once and it was like watery tomato soup with a few beans thrown in. I love M&S for food so buy some there. I know a market stall who has M&S seconds underwear so that's where I buy some of mine. Has to be non bio Persil and surcare washing up liquid and fabric softener. Anything else has us itching. Gwynne

Annie. My hubby loves buying in bulk at Macro. There are a lot of things that are so dear though. It is mainly Soap Powder, T.Rolls, Kitchen Roll, Sunflower Oil, Teabags and Crisps, we get from there. We must arrange to meet in there one day. Lol. Vivienne. Yes, Kingmill is always fresher at Iceland, than the big supermarkets. I am not too fussy where I shop. There are certain brands that I always stick to. Years ago, when the children were little, I tried cheaper brands of cereals, and put them in dearer branded boxes. No way, they all knew the difference, straight away. They still laugh about it now. Jenny.

I would be interested in finding the price differences on the same items from here and there. Do any of the stores you have mentioned have sale flyers/circulars online? I'll try and find the same from over here. Margaret

Claire Report 2 Jun 2005 15:43

I am on a budget so I always buy own brands (not necessarily the 'value' stuff though). I find most very good. I used to work for well known supermarket and I can conform that their own brand baked beans are made by heinz! Only one thing can't be beat, and that is Cadburys! Claire xx
