Hello Sheila I have to admit that I watch Taggart (and some other progs where there are strong local accents and dialects) with the subtitles switched on, but I wouldn't change them, as so much atmosphere would be lost. It does not help either when a character is not facing the camera, as I think we all lip-read to a certain extent. Hilary

Hilary - I am a Scot and dont think I have a really strong accent but when I am really tired - or angry or have been talking to family of friends back home - my accent becomes VERY broad lol, There was a film out a few years ago called Sweet Sixteen, set in Glasgow - and it had subtitles - even I was struggling to understand it lol I live in Yorkshire now and sometimes I am bamboozled by some of the words - well how was I know know the word BABBA - a word I used to use for a wee baby - has a completely different meaning down here
