Mommylonglegs Report 15 Oct 2005 19:54

Kirsty has checked all the worrying symptoms, eg. bringing chin down to neck and looked for rash. No worries there. Older Daughters Son, 10, was off school last week with cold and sore throat. Looks like Kirsty's boy has now just come down with the same. Older Daughter is now there now with her. She is now fretting that the new baby 8 weeks will go down with it. Oh, its times like this when I wish I was not 230 miles away. Perhaps this is why I panic so much. Thank you all for your advise. Promise to keep you informed. Jenny xx

jenny, my two were off school last week (aged 3 1/2). they both had high temp 40+, a croup sounding cough, lethargic, sick, this lasted all week with both of them, all i gave them was ibuprofen and TLC and they are fine now. ( one more bug in the imune system) thousands left to go. yesterday a few of the other kids also showed the same signs and symptoms. it's an awful time of year for bugs. i feel for your grandchild. lynnxx

Go to the emergency clinic -ring first. My son nearly died of menigiccoccal septicaemia within hours!!! Probably nothing serious but don't take a risk. There's no rash is there? Let us know what happens. Jacquie XXX

Joan of Arc(hives) Report 15 Oct 2005 20:24

Has she looked down his throat? It sounds like a bad case of tonsilitis. If he has a throat full of spots which are yelowy & nasty looking that is what it probably is. The calpol & ibruprofen is a good idea. A sponge down in the bath with tepid (not cold) water will also help to bring it down. Best to call the out of hours GP if it doesn't go down though. Joan xx

No Bendy he does not have any signs of Asthma. But we are a little bit worried as he has a knee problem. He has seen two Consultants recently and after a CAT scan, it has revealed two leasions on his knee that could be Osteosarcomas. Daughter is worried sick. We are just waiting for new appointment to come through. Jenny.

I agree with the others and ring the Dr. We have just had our Grandson the same and the Dr said it was a virus going around and to make sur nyou keep the fluids up to him. She suggested to give him sports drinks, eg Lucusade, Gatorade or whatever mineral drinks you can buy there. Hope he's soon better. Lin

Great advice about the sports drinks Lin. Providing your child hasn't any dietary special needs like diabetes. This is a great way to help replace fluids in a child who has sickness and/or dioarroea. Many kids hate the taste of prepared stuff (and the best to use) dioralite, but I was told by walk in center, this is not so good but better than nothing or plain water. I find the still sports drinks better as well. Also if your child can eat a bit, crisps with that drink, will introduce salt into the body. If any doubt, seek professional help. E x
