No haven't done for a few years now. I like it when the little ones come dressed up with their mummy but the last few years it is just kids with a silly mask, not wanting sweeties just money. I used to love it when the little boy over the road used to come he did look cute but now he has grown up. Our Joe came last night as they can't come today. Anyway Derek has gone to bed now (up very early) so they would only wake him up. That is a good idea let him go to the door that would scare the life out of them. Germaine x

No! This is the first year I have put my foot down and told my kids I will not take them Trick ot Treating as they are far too big now for children's games, and after a bit of sulking they have accepted it. I also have put a 'No Trick or Treat' sign at the door. Liz x

Yes I do answer the door, but the kids get choccie bars not money. Find that it keeps the older kids away when word gets around that there is no money! Maggy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 31 Oct 2005 17:29

A big NO from me - never do anymore - too many 'unsavory youths' taking advantage!! I got in at 5.10pm - have taped paper over the glass panels in front door (leads straight to lounge) to block out the light - only have a small lamp on and TV is on very low lol.

Well I've had 3 lots round so far (10 children in all) and everyone of them had dressed up. They received 3 sweets each (Heroes) and all said thank you. One lot even sang a song which I've never had before - I don't mind the little ones. Had to laugh last night as there was a knock on the door and I ignored the first 2 knocks - then changed my mind but they'd disapperared from the door and when I opened it I just heard 'Happy Halloween' from the distance - slammed the door shouting it's not Halloween yet! For the first year NO. Will most probably get eggs thrown at the house but we got that last year even though we had given treats. Jean x.

I'd never experienced a full blown American trick or treat until we got our own house. In my city it's very heavily regulated for the safety of all involved. If you're going to participate you leave your porch lights on, if your house is dark, the kids don't come and knock. The city 'emergency siren' sounds at 6pm on the dot, that's the signal for the kids that they can start, it sounds again at 7pm to signal the end of the fun. After 7pm, no children under the age of 12 are allowed out on the streets. It's a very frenetic hour, but a lot of fun, we have 32 houses in our 'sub division', and the only people who come round are the kids of the families who live here. Although tonight we have other plans, so we won't be participating. Brenda

Twinkle Report 31 Oct 2005 18:37

Nope. If people want to celebrate Hallowe'en with their children, they should take them to a fancy-dress party. If I had a sign, it would read: 'Run to the strange man, children, and take his sweeties'.

YES! we live in a fairly small community and the kids are great really (well about 95% of them lol) With being involved in various activities in the village their parents know that we have things for the kids - have had about 10 in total so far all dressed up and all saying thank you
