Just been told that my Daddy can have a much needed cataract operation and they are letting him jump all waiting lists because he is profoundly deaf and it will happen on the 15th Dec..... I love the NHS when its at its best and it has given us both the best Crimbo present ever!! :o)

Good on yer Dad Diana. My wife has had both her eyes done. Excellent service at General Hospital, Southampton. I put her first visit on this site, asking for information, the response was terrific. Must pass on that an eye theatre nurse answered and stressed the importance of carrying out the after care medication i.e. eye drops. Best of luck.

Excellent news Diana. I,ve had both my eyes done & the result is wonderful. He deserves to get his done as problems with two of his senses must be a big problem for him. Wish him well & tell him from me its a doddle. Shirley

Thanks everyone.... this means so much to both of us as it means he'll have a bit more independence and I won't have too worry so much..... it really is the best news that i have ever received.... the nurse in the eye unit was fantastic as I told her I had been told we had a long waiting list and she just said 'Oh no we don't, give me five minutes and I'll be back' and back she came with the 15th Dec.... I could've hugged her on the spot!!

If he is as half as happy as my Dad when he had his, then it will be great for all the family - he was like a child, he said that all the colours were beautiful, everything that we take for granted......
