Hi all, Has anyone tried scrapbooking?. I've been thinking about taking it up for a while now and have bought the ocassional magazine on it. I'm thinking of doing it mainly for family history purposes but I'm a bit stuck for ideas on what to put on the pages along with the photos. Does anyone already do it, any ideas greatfully appreciated Thanks and Happy New Year to all Michele

Hi, I have been 'ready to go' since last August, have the scrap book, several books on it and several bits and pieces. It is an extension to card making and I just need to find the time. As well as photos you could have all sorts of (or copies of) ephemeria. (bus tickets, theatre tickets, programmes; use copies of certificates behind the photos, copies of letters, postcards, pieces of material of favourite dresses, scraps of wallpaper. Make sure you use acid free glue and paper, use copies of valuable photos Ann Glos

Hi Michele, My daughter does it and loves it so we decided to do one for Mum's 70th..... Just finished the ancestry page and i am now addicted!!!!! Collect everything you find....bits of string, buttons all sorts as they will come in handy. It would make it easier to start if you have a goal (ie My Mum's 70th in March)... Happy scrapebooking!!!!!!!! Sally x

Rubber stamps go really well with all the ephemara stuff. You can get all kinds of vintage ones and very cool vintage colored inks too. And you can buy scissors that have different wavy edges for blades, and stickers, and, and, and... ...if you think genealogy sucks up all your pennies, then start scrapbooking and you'll be broke in no time. BUT, you will have had fun, made some beautiful things and scratched that artisitic itch.

There is a new craft shop in our village which is mainly geared towards scrapbooking and card making. Seems to be a very expensive hobby.

Thanks for the tip about Qvc Anne, I've added it to favourites and will have a proper read through later. I'm also thinking a trip to Hobbycraft might be on the cards soon. In the meantime I'l have a look through all the family memorabilia and see what can be copied and used. It seems there may be a few of us now planning to take it up so please keep any ideas coming. Thanks Michele X

Michele, I don't do scrapbooking YET, but am quite interested and am always looking around for ideas. A good site that I have found is twopeasinabucket(.)com Click on 'PeaNut Gallery' -- this section shows you the pages submitted by members in the last 24 hours. When I checked a few minutes ago, there were 41 pages of submissions. That should give you some ideas.......

Michele, I love scrapbooking its a great way to keep photos. QVC do good starter sets and you must use acid free papers. Albums look so much nicer done this way and using the correct bits and bobs will not yellow like the ordinary albums. Jill xx :)

hi michelle I started scrapbooking just two months ago and along with genealogy am well and truly hooked on it too. I did start as I think it compliments doing your family tree as I had inherited all the photos from my mum and dad's house, some of them sadly I have no idea who the peeps are as the photos belonged to my grandparents and apparently Dad didn't know who they were either because where he did know he wrote on the back of the photos where they were taken and who the people were , I have done about 10 pages already and it does cost a lot if you go to the specialty shops here, but we do have some cheaper alternitives too there are literally hundreds of web sites for scrapbooking and some sell online and sometimes their things are cheaper down here at least all the best do start I'm sure youll find it very rewarding especiallmy if you hit a brickwall its calming to go and do some scrapbooking while waiting to get some more enthusiasm to go on searching for dead peeps who dont want to be found LOL kind regards Lara

Michele, I scrapbook. It was family history that got me started. I don't scrapbook original photos, I use copies. These can be made larger or smaller. I have large albums, but also reduce a lot of old photos and put them in 6' x 6' albums. These are quick and easy and look nice on the coffee table for people to look at, including the children. Although I put some information with the photo, I also put more information on the back of the page e.g. who they are, wife/husband of ...., daughter/son of...., where they were born etc. I'm just as hooked on scrapbooking as I am on genealogy!! You can buy lots of 'heritage' papers etc. Susan

We;ve a shop in our town that sells scrapbooking stuff and its brilliant.. I;ve used it to decorate my family tree folders.......livens them up and makes them more appealing. But you dont have to buy the books .............there's often stuff in magazines relevant to family history or the sort of jobs our rellies did and I've used that sort of thing a lot. Very theraputic too. And if you Google 'Scrpabooking images' loads of things come up....well worth a go

Nicky, scrapbooking takes the old hobby of sticking photos etc in scrap books a stage further. You use photos, clippings etc but you decorate and personalise the pages. try googling scrapbooking and you will get an idea. ann Glos

My MIL now teaches stamping and scrapbooking. She was producing beautiful stuff and people kept asking her how she did it. She reduces the size of photos and certs too for her family scrapbooks. She hoards everything, a bit like many of us on GR hoarding names of people 'just in case'. She has absolutely hundreds of stamps so that hasn't been cheap. It is a bit of a compulsive thing. RW

I bought the TSV from QVC this week. 2 scrapbooks and loads of papers, embellishments, stickers etc., for £25. I want to use them for scrapbooking the family history research in some way. It's worth watching the programmes on there to get ideas. Rosemary Merry was on and she has great ideas.
