The cartoon was offensive to the religion. I think the same people printed another offensive cartoon after there was uproar about the first. Hence to hoo har that has followed. once is insensitive...twice or more is plain stupid and looking for a war. Elaine x

Simple explanation?? The world has gone mad !!!! I remember seeing cartoons about God in our Newspapers - don't recall millions of Christians or other denominations rioting in London or anywhere else!!!!

If they want respect for their God then they should show respect for other peoples Gods. Which as far as I can see they don't.

its typical of a few religions really, its like the war in ireland , how some, not all take offence and then you have a war, i feel it people who are power crazy, and use the religion thing to kick off, i get laughed at for having views on spiritualism but dont go down road protesting its just mad

I find offensive the protesters in London yesterday shouting about and threatening another 7/7. I know we have free speech in this country, but surely that is incitement. Where else in the world would this be permitted? Surely inciting racial hatred is an offence - or is that just another one-sided rule? Sue

I think the simplest explanation is - what some regard as satire, others regard as demonisation.

in work recently a lady came round with leaflets toput on counter, advertising dance class for kids and a fund raising event for above hall of a clairvoyant evening, the latter leaflets were put under counter, when i placed them aside the others, shortly after they were removed again, it could only have been a lady there whose a christian, and has said before how she strongly disagrees with anything like that, apparently it says in bible not to have any dealings with any form of mediumship or clairvoyant types, i just feel it free choice, i dont tell people what they should do, and others should make up their own mind,

I set my views out on my thread yesterday. Some while ago i put a joke on this channel 'might cause offence'. I was pilloried on the lines of 'if you think it will cause offence, why post it'. A valid criticism on a mild piece of lampoonery. The same principle should apply on the newspapers deliberate intent to cause offence. Happy days

Elaine, I agree with you 100%!! I think that its one thing making fun of say'bin laden' but to make fun of their Prophet is down right Ignorance, I would feel just the same if it was 'Jesus', its just lack of respect. I do however think that the way the muslims are demonstrating is doing them no favours, you cant not in a western country have banners saying 'DEATH TO THE INFIDELS' thats just not the wests way, an apology should be enough, we are not living in Saudi Arabia!!

well i must be thick or something cos I still dont get it. What about all the religion jokes Dave Allen tells? Never have found him funny but I dont go around protesting about it. GLoria

An anology might be that Muslims apparently feel so strongly about their religion as perhaps we feel about our children - I,m sure all of us are over-protective. Like Roxanne and Elaine, i feel they go over the top with their protestations, but if the newspaper had shown some common-sense, the protests wouldn,t have been necessary. Happy days

The cartoon was obviously offensive to some Muslims who see their religion as sacred and beyond criticism. It was to be expected - most of us become angry when the things we hold dearest to our hearts are attacked. All religions have followers who get very excited when their beliefs are attacked. There were members of the Christian churches who were deeply upset by The Life of Brian and The Temptation of Christ. I notice that there is a huge element of 'them and us' mentality appearing again between Muslims & non-Muslims much as it did after the London bombings. I think there's too much generalisation. *Some* Muslims are over-reacting and making threats of violence. *Some* Muslims blame the whole of Denmark and even the whole of the non-Muslim world for the actions of a few newspaper editors. *Some* non-Muslims are talking as if the whole Muslim community is an enemy intent on our destruction. It's all very divise. I bet the BNP will be out on the lash tonight celebrating. Been a good week for them all round.

I also sense a there is a bit of the kettle calling the pot here. We can't have one rule for one and one for another.

There was no islamic outrage when the muslims in Afghanistan blew up the giant statues of Budha that were possibly as old as islam. It would appear that the only religion they will tolerate is their own. They also say that the koran prohibits usary, or making a profit from money and contributions to pensions and national health are against their religion ...but it does not object to benefitting from the contributions of others

I find the cartoons offensive, I am not a muslim. we should respect each others beliefs whatever they are. gwynne explained it 100% any image of the prophet it not really permitted. All Muslims are not the same, the same as all Jews, all christians e.t.c, dont put every Muslim in the same category, its just not right!!!
