I think our school motto was 'put that fag out and get to my office!' The headmaster was always saying it to me!!

Ut Prosim - I think it meant I Achieve. Obviously a they though it might rub off when the school opened in the fifties.

Tenax Propositi Vinco - Holding fast to my purpose, I conquer A mixed grammar school in the '60s and Jacqui, we wore our uniform just like you describe, except once a term when the deputy head made all us girls kneel on hte benches in the changing rooms to check that our skirts reached our knees. (Yes, we rolled the waistbands over again as soon as she'd finished)

I went to the same school as Zoe, so not surprisingly, have the same motto! SAPERE AUDE - Dare To Be Wise although I'm not sure I lived up to it.... Carole
