School motto, embroidered on our blazer badges was Semper Fidelis, which means Always Faithful. Spookily our school song was Non Nobis Domine (Not Unto Us O Lord) too! It was only fairly recently that I found out the words had been written by Rudyard Kipling. nell

Ours was 'RISE UP - ACHIEVE' (To date, I've managed it eight times at least, to start with - but who is counting ?) The school is now demolished (probably on the orders of some 'suit' whose brother was a developer so somebody achieved something !).

Drummed into us from day one Nisi Dominus Frustra Unless the Lord is with us all is in vain. On our school badge which was attached to a very unflattering bright green blazer with a white trim! Helen

Ours was 'Non Nobis Domine' (not unto us oh Lord!) for some reason. We had a song of this title going something like : Non Nobis Domine, not unto us oh Lord The praise and glory be to any deed or word. For in thy judgement lies to crown or bring to nought All knowlege and device which man can seek or wrought. (no idea!) Used to sing this at speech day with great gusto, just like something out of 'The Four Mary's' (anyone remember them?) Allie

Just realised, reading through the posts that this was a common motto! Didn't know that the words were by Kipling though. Interesting. Allie x

The second secondary school I went to has the motto orando laborando which means by work and by prayer.

Jacqui Report 15 Feb 2006 19:52

I know we had one (it was embroidered on the badges on our blazers and berets) but for the life of me I cannot remember it - I can remember using every trick in the book to ensure that no one actually saw either badge - bouffant hair styles to cover the berets (with the badge totally obliterated) and blazers discarded after the 1st term in the first form!! Skirt waist bands turned over to ensure hem above the knee, tie knotted (just) and know pulled down to mid-chest level! I still have my school scarf though, even after 40+ years (I must give it a wash - lol lol) Jacqui
