Should we have abortion? and should parents have the right to know if their daughter is having an abortion?

I would be so upset if my child didn't come to me first. I can appreciate that not everyone has a good relationship with their parents.

If the girl is still the parents' responsibility then yes of course they should know.

I'm against because I believe life begins at conception. Last year for my religious studies I had research something about it and I found these really horrific pictures of aborted babies on the internet - argghh.. And I do believe that parents should know if their daughter wants an abortion. :-)

Luciacw Report 3 Mar 2006 21:38

oh no Jim lol I think abortion should only happen in exceptional circumstances - only if the mother's life is in danger. :-)

Would normally relish this debate but brain too addled with the amber nectar at the moment - and have just got the Glenmoranchie out - so will (dis)gracefully decline . x

Diana, I do recall when someone posted an abortion thread and I think it got very personal.

Ginny

I am in agreement with Lucia here. To me a foetus is as human as a baby. I also believe that there should not be any secrecy between any child under 16 and any 'Professional' e.g doctor, solicitor, etc. from the parents who are responsible for that child.

Luciacw Report 3 Mar 2006 21:42

Anne, Even then I don't think abortion should be allowed. It's not the baby's fault - you can't take everything out on the baby. Life is precious. :-)

I think the question of abortion is really down to the individual and their conscience. I don't think I have the right to sit in judgement on anyone comtemplating what must be a truly terrible experience. As for knowing if your child is seeking an abortion. Of course I think parents should know. This Government is sending out so many mixed messages it's untrue. On the one hand there is talk of girls as young as 12 having secret abortions and on the other they talk about parents having responsibility for their childrens actions, ie when involved in anti-social behaviour, truancy etc. As I see it, as a parent you are responsible for your 'child' whilst he/she is still a 'minor' - and as I understand it you are a minor until 18. How can they heap responsibility on parents shoulders for one thing and take it away on another. It just doesn't make sense. Somewhere along the line there should be some consistency.

lucia, i agree life is precious but at the same time if you where raped(god forbid) could you happily carry a child for nine months knowing how it was concived could you look at that child without wondering if he/she resembles thier father???
