Hi Liz, sorry to be so late in adding. Hope all is well with the little baby and family. I was due 29th Feb but born on Christmas Eve weighing in at 3lbs 1 oz. That was just over 51 years ago. No hospital, just a drawer to sleep in and a midwife who lived next door. Happy knitting. Jenny xx

Just spotted this thread :-) Samuel sounds like a good sized little baby, if Mum had pre-eclampsia his little body would have been preparing itself for an early entrance. I'm sure he'll be a little fighter. Our NICU has lots of clothes and blankets for all the babies - most units offer the same. It's lovely to have some of your very own though, for when baby goes into a cot - with eveyone's help on here it looks like you'll have a few patterns to choose from. Wishing you and your family and friends all the best, Jenny (a NICU nurse :-))

Just spotted this, not going to knit because he'll be celebrating his 18th birthday before I finish! A workmate of my daughter's had a prem baby (actually on her birthday), he's doing really well, now 14mths old. They have organised various fund-raising events for the local SCBU, latest is a cycle run on 28th May. We (and others) support by helping with refreshments, that way no cash needed for expenses. Hope he gets on okay Christinex

Liz, looks like other peeps covered the pattern bit so won't bother but did make for my own daughter and used baby doll patterns. Know we talked about premmies before and just want you to know not to be to worried. My daughter was 2lb 4oz and will be 28 next month. My dad was 1lb 6 oz and that was 75 years ago. Thoughts and prayers for you and your friend especially at this time. Bless xx Deb

Thanks again for all your messages, and gifts en route. I called in to see the proud daddy and little Emily this evening, and saw Samuel's photo and details. He will be in hospital for a while yet but was breathing unaided and came out crying so strong little fella. Mummy will be home on Monday - shame the hospital is quite a distance away and they have no car, so an excuse for me to take her one day and see little one. Will keep you posted on how he is doing, and how I am doing with the knitting - scarves on hold now. Liz

Somewhat belated..........but may help for future prem births. BBC Radio Stoke has a number of knitting patterns for prem babies' garments, which can be accessed on line. Go to http://www.bbc(.)co.uk/stoke/my_pages/babywear/patterns.shtml Omit brackets, as always Reg

My little one was only 2lb 9, but by the time she was 2 month old she weighed 5lb. If you can't find any knitting patterns, boots have a good selection of small clothes starting at 3 1/2 lb.
