in my opinion world war 3 has basically already started. i work on a military base and hear senior officers' opinions all the time and i have to say it worries me. so what do you think? is the world about to go through another huge period shift in history, or am i being a big drama queen and should stop being such a big jessie? |

its the amounts of places that conflict is occuring suzy that bothers me. paul i agree with what you say, but at the moment israel, palestine, afghanistan and iraq are the hot news areas. but there is still killing going on in kosovo, bosnia, rowanda, korea, zimbabwe to name but a few. the americans are spoiling for a fight, the chinese will be the world superpower within 12 months, the russians may well forget old rivalries and fall in with communist states, and we havent even mentioned any religious argy bargy yet! luckily i saved my tin hat when i left the army! |

The West has poked its interfering finger into the Middle East for far too long. We can't complain now if we get it bitten. I fear that if the West doesn't back off that there will indeed be a major conflict, and who will suffer the most? The innocent civilians. It is time that sensible people started voting for Pacifist leaders instead of those who think nothing of sitting in their cosy offices ordering the death of thousands. |

do you know what always amazes me, we impose sanctions on countries like iran who say they want nuclear weapons, but not one person on question time or in any forum i have seen has noticed the hypocrisy between that and us updating our trident missile programme. if we keep on behaving like we can make the rules but do our own thing on our own shores, someone is going to rear up and bite us. |

Paul..... you are right to be worried but I do not think this is World War III. I believe that this conflict will be confined to the Middle East this time. Countries will draw up on their own side of the lines and the UN will shilly shally about as usual... making noises but carrying no weight. Iran and Syria are not yet capable of mounting full scale war against the West... but Iran in particular will one day be capable. The time to start being concerned is now to make sure that Iran cannot build (I think the correct phrase is) weapons of mass destruction. Jean x. |

fair point jean, but do you not agree that we are being hypocrytes by stopping them from building nuclear when we have our own? surely if we scrapped ours we would make more sense? |

Paul, I have been a campaigner for nuclear disarmament since the 60s. The trouble is nobody listens until it is too late. Everybody thought we were a load of hippies making a fuss about nothing. Not so I was a mother with 2 young children and my concern was for the world they would be living in. The way I see it now there will never be nuclear disarmament... it is way too late. The best we can hope for now is that all countries will be governed by sensible people....and in my book the Aytollah does not come into that category. He is a religious fanatic and people like him stop at nothing to achieve their aims. That is my fear about Iran having nuclear weapons. Sorry to go on at such length but once I started I couldn''t stop lol. Jean x. |

I agree with Paul, But I can't see the Americans allowing the UN inspectors to remove and destroy their huge arsenal of Nuclear, biological and other WMDs. We know what happens to those who have unlimited Power, they will bully everyone else. |
