We have several traits that we have obviously passed on. The ability to waggle ears. Long fingers, buying gloves is a nightmare. Large, wide feet, I take a size 10, my 8 year old takes a size 4 1/2 H and my 6 year old takes a size 2 1/2 H+ Large lung capacity ( OH's ancestors were glass blowers) Large heads, we all find it difficult to get hats to fit. Large hands, bangles are a no no. Split little toe nail has been inherited by my two girls from their father. Louise

my middle son has conjoined toes, his second and third toes are fused together on both feet. I have it slightly and so did my mum. She also told me that both my uncle and granddad had the same.

I'm glad that my bent fingers haven't been inherited. I was nearly 3 months premature and as a result my fingers are not straight but they are very long. The sad thing is that they'd be great for a pianist but I'm not musical. Louise

Caz, I used to work for a famous classical pianist who had very long fingers which rarely saw the light of day as they seemed to be covered in fabric plasters most of the time to protect them during practice. Louise

I've been blessed with all the 'nasties' from both sides of the family! - bunions, long second toes and fat knees. Also missed out on the blonde hair and pert nose that permeates my mother's side. Jay

Lemon, that bent little finger - my sister has that and my step-father also had it, it's supposed to be a 'piper's finger' Quite often when I'm walking I'll link my hands behind my back - just exactly as my mother does! My husband, daughter and son all have dimples and all have a gap between their two front teeth.

Georgia

Georgia Report 24 Aug 2006 03:55

From my mother I inherited a big gap between my big toe and the next to big toe on each foot. (Handy for resting the heel of the other foot in when relaxing...). Both my brothers, their children, and my son inherited it too. Must be a dominant gene. I wish my son had inherited my curly hair, but he didn't :-( However, it's really weird sometimes when his voice sounds like my kid brother, who he hasn't met but a handful of times as we live on different continents.

Sad to say I've passed on asthma to my son - it's documented in the family back to before 1900. Dad is allergic to penicillin as am I and my son. We can both curl our tongues, both have proper earlobes and both have hypermobility. Gwynne

lemon - my daughter has bent little fingers. no one else has as far as i know (my side anyway) the doctor at the hospital said that it was a common thing from the scarborough and whitby coast (us all being inter bred perhaps?) i often look at peoples hands whilst i am working but havent found it all THAT common. our vicars are bent but not as badly as my daughters. she has so much difficulty at school trying to play the recorder she had to give it up. tina x
