Can I have your thoughts on this about GR please.

A friend of mine has started to research her family tree on a free acount on GR she wants to upgrade to full memebership and gain advice and experience from other members on the boards and to also make contact with any hot matches she may get. But she has tourettes and although she has help for this she sometimes when she is anxious slips up and puts what she is thinking and forgets to edit her message. She emailed GR to inform them of her problem without editing her mail so they could see the mistakes she could make. All they sent back was the normal bog standard reply telling her how to go about upgrading but no mention of the tourettes and the problems she could face regarding it. She then sent another mail asking for clarification as her question had not been dealt with and also enclosing a copy of the first email she sent. All she got back was once again how to go about upgrading. She is now concerned that should she upgrade and posts and misses editing something out she would face lossing her membership and offend people in the process but on the other hand is missing the help and experience of us members. Once again GR have no policy but to take peoples money. Please can you give me your thoughts please Jax xx

Get her to put TOURETTES in the subject line rather than upgrading your account.... they will look at it properly then!! ;o(

Hi Clare This is what she emailed them for to see if they could help her in anyway but they only are concerned about her upgrading and paying her money. They have totally by passed her problem and have still not given her any worthwhile help. Jax xx

I think thats bad on GR's part... really its a form of discrimination against someone who is disabled....?!?! Isnt there a way that they could vet her emails/posts before she sends them??? This would surely be better all round as she could then get her info, they get their money (!!) and no-one gets offended. Clare x

Jax, it seems to me that GR would not be able to ban her as they have in effect given her permission to join by their response to her email. If they can't be bothered to check emails properly then this is their problem. And should your friend offend anyone and they try to ban her I would suggest she refers them back to her original email for help and their response to it. Ann x

Try (either you or her) telling them that she wants to upgrade, but unless they acknowledge her problem (such as she has - she didnt need to tell them I'm sure) then she will not part with her money.... Going to the papers with a good story always gets things moving!!! Good Luck Clare x

Thats sad Jax you would think that they would have somesort of policy in place to handle this kind of thing. also they could place a bad word filter on here like other sites have that would help as well sheesh Gr need to get there act togeather Sxx

I should also add Jax, that if people on here are aware of her problems they would totally understand and not take offence - I certainly wouldn't Ann x

Thankyou everyone I too feel the same way as Ann and think if she does make a mistake she cannot surely be banned as she has informed them of her condition. I know we have many problems on the boards but im sure on the whole most of us will have empathy for her and understand that she cannot always control her language. Jax xx

David to clarify most of the time she can control her swearing but as with most of us she types what she is thinking at the time so because she thinks swear words she types them. Im not sure if this is the case for everyone though as the only person I know with it is Rachel. Jax xx

Hi Puss That is a lovely idea hun she would not be offended in anyway but would be glad of the help as she is most concerned about upsetting people and getting reported, She also said that if I find out peoples opinions on this she may join us but have tourettes in her name to show people that she has the condition. Im fine thanks hun xx Jax xx

I think she should join.......if GR ban her I'm afraid they would be discriminating against her disability. She has at least explained to them TWICE & as Puss says we're all here to help her. Looking forward to welcoming her to the site :) Much happiness Debi
