Lots of positive news there Allan.
So pleased for you and your family :-D

I hope your referral comes through quickly and you can be reassured that you can be treated without delay.

What a relief for you, Allan <3

I, too, have been through a similar scare with a nasty on my face :-0. Having it removed wasn't half as bad as I thought it was going to be and unless you were in the know you'd now be hard pushed to see the scar....because it was on the face, it was done by a plastic surgeon......hopefully your experience will be the same :-) <3

Update.

I was referred to a plastic Surgeon by my 'skin' doctor, and here is where the fun started.

Because he comes down to Bunbury from Perth the earliest appointment I could make was for the beginning of June, and as he does not deal with 'public' patients, only 'private' I would be up for the full cost of any treatment (I don't have private medical insurance) although there would be some rebate back from Medicare.

Fast forward to last Tuesday when I went for a full-body check up at the local skin clinic. My doctor asked how my appointment with the Surgeon had gone.

I told her that it hadn't yet taken place, and she than asked whether the appointment was for surgery or a consultation. Just a consultation, the cost of further treatment would then be discussed.

My doctor muttered about that being too long to wait (She was of the opinion that the melanoma had grown) and she offered to do the procedure herself. She explained what would be involved and that there would be some scarring. However, because I have loose facial skin, her words, mine would be 'flabby', no skin graft would be needed

So, my appointment to have the melanoma removed is set for late Wednesday afternoon at the local skin clinic followed by two days of total rest to which my wife observed that I'll just be following my normal life then.

You'll be relieved to have it dealt with sooner rather than later, Allan.
We'll all be thinking of you.

It's obviously an advantage to have flabby skin!

You'll be able to brag that you got the scar while rescuing a cat from up a tree ;-)

Seriously though, your doctor sounds very competent and wouldn't have suggested doing the surgery herself if she didn't think she was capable of doing it :-)

It will soon be done and dusted and a job well done, Allan <3

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

LondonBelle, I already look like something the cat has dragged in off the street so I will have to find another explanation for a post-operative black eye and subsequent scarring.;-)

Having said that, I've already had a full photographic image taken of my body and I can say, without any fear of contradiction, that the images are less than flattering.

In fact in the first one I look like a corpse that has been dragged out of the canal after three or four days of full immersion :-0

Not the sort of photo that you want in the family photo album, unless your a member of the Addams family :-D

Good luck with the procedure Alan. I recently had three procedures to remove Basal cells (like yours non malignant melanomas). One of them was on my temple. And previously I had one removed on my face. I had no problems with any of them yes, I did have a black eye but that soon went. Just take it easy the following day, hopefully it will soon heal as mine has. I think over 20+ years my total is now about 24/5. Hope all goes well.
