I had either a series of TIAs or a minor stroke last Feb and wonder if others still have probs this far down the road....I was lucky and did not lose speech or have face fall or was paralysed but I have constant pins and needles down my right side from ear to toes,including my hand and arm.

I also have a pain in my side all the time that becomes worse with too much exercise and I find it difficult to do a lot of things now which is frustrating as I was pretty active before.

Is this normal.

MRI says I def am affected in my brain(I knew that all my life anyway.. :-D)but I have not had any help from NHS or stroke Ass as I live in the back of beyond and really cant be bothered with all the hassle of arguing for it much longer.

But what I really want to know is if anyone else has been left with a pain in their side or pins and needles that wont Pee Orf.??

I have spoken to no one that has suffered a stroke at all and am NOT looking for Gooey Symphony ,just a little comparisons if poss.

All I can help you with is that i had a fair number of them 10 years or so ago. Had no effect on me other than I don't feel quite right in the head (I know).

Funny thing is, driving my car for the last few days, I have been seeing black spots in front of my eyes and i thought "here we go again" but they areactually are three tiny black spots on the windscreen - tar or similar.

Fan - I had several minor strokes (TIAs) between 1995 and 1997 when I had a more serious stroke. That resulted in an operation to unblock my carotid artery.

I still have problems some 16 years on - although I have to say I was very fortunate as I did not lose my speech or have any paralysis for more than a couple of weeks. However that said I still have fairly regular bouts of pins and needles down my left arm and hand and a constant numbness in three of the fingers on my left hand.

These days I just get on with my life, keep popping the pills, as I have had enough of hospitals over the past 20 years, I take things as they come, I have good days & I have bad days, when by body yells at me to slow down I do what my body says. I sit down and take things easy.

Make a special note if you see the stroke nurse. You are more likely to see Halley's Comet twice!

Something sort of connected as a thought....in the late 1990s I was driving home, felt unwell, manged to pull the car over and was the unable to move or speak. A passing motorist stopped and called an ambulance. The hospital diagnosed a TIA, kept me in for 4 days prescribed Warfarin and home I toddled. Over the next few weeks I saw the inside of an ambulance a further 6 times!!!!

I was eventually kept in hospital for 3 weeks undergoing tests including an MRI wich the registrar informed me showed brain damage.

Each episode produced the same effects, no speech and paralysis down left side.

I was transported to see my daughter's neurologist in Morriston Hospital and he told me he knew exactly what was wrong and after a further MRI and MRA he would announce the diagnosis...lolol

I have hemiplegic migraine although I never have a headache with this. The symptoms mimic a stroke exactly but once the blood supply has been re-established through a rise in pressure I recover.

I would never have known unless my family hadn't pressured the hospital to find out exactly what was wrong with me, even threatening to transport me by private ambulance to a London hospital from West Wales.

This probably has absolutely nothing to do with your problems but it's worth people knowing there are other illnesses that affect the brain.

I hope you get some good replies as to how to move forward and access more health care.

I have never seen a stroke anyone.!
5 hours I was in hospital...Glangwilli Carmarthen,I found out last month that they have a stroke ward which I found strange as they had decided to keep me in "overnight"to do a chest xray but on the" older peoples"(I am 55!!) ward,I knew it was that one when they named it as been on it before.. ....
I said that if all they were keeping me in for was one xray in the morning I would return for it,but they never gave me an appointment and just sent me home...
Luckily my son had arrived to the hospital by then...Only 150 mile trip for him...And I just wanted home as it was bedlam on casualty by then with raving drunks,cops all over and a gent who was a little off his trolley threatening all staff so they were trying to sedate him...That was without the fella who died after saying he felt ok and the 2 admitted with appedicitis..Cant spell that.

My Dr is a very nice DR but like many is overworked with too many patients really...He is always available if I call him but now I am on blood thinners(not warfrin)there seems to nothing else to be done really.
I do as much as I can as I am not going to lie back and not fight this but sometimes of course I just wanna scream.
I joined the Stroke Ass on FB but found it not very good on the chat boards there...
All I wanted was others experience to compare against really to see how I could help myself more..

lolol Glangwili are supposed to be specialising in cancer treatments, the orthopaedic cases being transferred to Prince Philip. There is a planned shake up in the health authority with more hospitals becoming centres for fewer disciplines.

All too often you are seen by a General Consultant in Glangwili, there is a clue in the word General :-( and that unfortunately does have an impact on treatment.

I should have popped over the river and called an ambulance in Ceredigion I often think....Bronglais may have been better to be taken to.
Been in there a few times too but moved this side a few years back.
My Dr asked for MRI on brain for me and I waited 4 months for it....My friend in Ceredigion waited 1 month for one on her back.!!
Sure I had a CT scan on "the day" but then got told a while back by a nurse in Glangwilli that most stroke damage does not show up on one of those for at least 24/48 hours...So what was the flamin point of giving me one of those then?????
Anyways...Enough ranting..Gonna try find some CSI on TV to cool down with...Or better still NCYS....I DO like Special Agent Gibbs in that...Yumeee... ;-)
