No, my hairdresser comes to my flat and does my hair and has done for over 30 years! So I don't tip him, but I give him some green tea or a glass of wine :-D <3

NO!

Tipping is not encouraged in Australia.

If you go to a really nice restaurant and have an exceptional meal & service, you might give the staff a small tip.

I might give my hairdresser a bottle of plonk at Christmas.

have my hair cut once every six weeks - costs £26 - usually give him £3 - he's excellent at cutting which I find the most important aspect of gong to the hairdresser and good cutters are hard to find

Sue Report 20 Jun 2013 11:57

I usually do tip my hairdresser, but have always wondered if this is expected or not.

As the cost can be quite expensive anyway, if you have a cut, colour etc., and 10% can amount to £5.00. I feel mean if i dont tip tho., So cant win.!!

Mine does quite a good job and only charges me £5. He charges £5 for OAPs and £8 usually for young fellows like me. So I usually give him a £3 tip and feel I am being very generous. And he does my eyebrows for free then :-) :-)

OH usually tips 10% - but that can often be an awful lot more than £3. Particularly if streaks are involved. She has had same hairdresser for many years - a very talented young coiffeuse who works from home and is always very very busy. Very difficult to find a good one when you have thin hair, apparently. :-)

Always take 5.00 in change for hairdressers 3.00 for the stylist & 2 for the trainee who does the hairwash. But if no trainee on that day then stylist will get the lot.

OH does his own hair. Shaves his head every 3 weeks.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 20 Jun 2013 12:03

All of the qualified hairdressers where we go 'hire' their chairs from the salon. The charges are standard regardless who does your hair. There must be a 'wage' built into the price and it would depend how many customers they personally get as to how much they earn in a day/week.

Did someone say something about tipping in the US now deleted or have I finally lost it?

I must admit that purchasing food in the US annoys me. The advertised price is less sales tax and you are expected to tip the server. I think someone said that they aren't paid a wage.
So you can expect to add 30% to the cost you see :-|

~`*`Jude`*`~ Report 20 Jun 2013 12:09

DetecTive....yes l mentioned USA, its still there too, praps you have lost it...lol

11.52...We always tip the waiters too,, thats expected too. In USA you are defo expected to tip!!

Mine cost £37 yesterday....yikes,, but they are all about the same in town, the cheaper one l used last time was'nt very good:((

Yes alot of hairdressers rent the chair, l spose that can work out well for them, but would soon show if they were'nt getting customers.
