'Life's a beach'

So what is your favourite?

Maybe Huntington beach, California with moonlit surfing on the Pacific?
Looking for fossils in Dorset?
Sandy and deckchairs a'plenty?
Rock pools with sea anemones and little fishes in Cornwall?.
The tide raking the pebbles in Aberystwyth?
Deserted and windswept beaches on the east coast?

My favourite?...I am thinking of writing about it for the writers group, so I'm not telling lol.

One of the Northumberland beaches - Bamborough, Embleton or Beadnell Bay.
For rock pools - Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire.

The local beach..Heacham in Norfolk.

Allows dogs and is open all year round.........my ultimate aim is to have a static there and spend our weekends with kids and dogs....all of us relax and enjoy ourselves there.......I'm sure it's not the BEST beach in the world....but it's OUR beach so for that reason it's the best as far as we're concerned anyhow lol.

I have a very happy memory of watching Sandpipers looking for food on the shoreline of an almost deserted beach in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was early evening and the sun was setting on the horizon. We sat on the beach watching them jostling, diving and strutting daintily together on the shimmering white sand . It was such a beautiful and peaceful sight.

Barbara I worked in Jersey in my youth.

All the beaches there are beautiful, our favourite for sunbathing were the dunes at St Ouen. ;-)

Sandy Balls sounds like it should be a good/interesting beach - but it isn't near the sea :-(

I am not a beach fan.. we have black sand on one coast and white on the other. Have loads of fantastic beaches, some are at the bottom of cliffs and one can exhaust oneself getting back up to the top again.

I have slept in a camper van on the beach at a place called Kaikoura ..could not see the sea from there we were nestled behind these huge dunes.. once you climb over them and look out you are more than likely to see a few whales whooping it up.

Down further south and you can walk around amongst the seals on the beach.

On the Wellington rocky shore you could come across a penguin or two crossing the road.

I am sure if you came here Rose you would find a beach to like and write about and then I could read it.

Kaikoura is wonderful, Persie!

My favourite beach would have to be Miracle Beach on Vancouver Island

But I also have very fond memories of many holidays spent playing on the southern part of South Beach, Scarborough ................... about as far away from the bingo stands, etc, as we could get

Very difficult....
The first time I flew abroad...and I was 37....everyone was saying ...just look at that beach...and I wasn't that impressed as I lived on the sea front In Barmouth Wales and we had a wonderful beach for 10 miles up to Harlech and the dunes and scenery wonderful...so probably spoiled.

There are so many wonderful beaches ,have been on beaches on islands in the Carribean,Australia,Spain and can see a beach from my window here in North Wales.
Must say I like to walk on a beach ,but the sand used to get on my nerves as it gets everywhere and I was forever cleaning down my stairs in the guest house as being on the prom visitors were in and out.

I still think of sitting at the end of the prom in Barmouth, after the main season was over and nice and quiet watching the Autumn sunset.....wonderful!

Joss Bay in Kent between Margate and Broadstairs -

Its sheltered from the wind and relatively small. Only one cafe/beach shop so the children aren't too tempted to waste their pocket money.
Soft sand above the high tide mark, with sand in the centre and rock pools at the ends of the arc at low tide.
Its amusing watching the life guards flirt with the teenage/young girls ;-)

I love Dungeness, not because it's pretty but it just feels like 'the edge' of the world. The dogs love it too!

I agree with you Det Joss bay is a little bit of paradise, although Whitstable, aka Whitstabbubble, is a big favourite with us, in any weather, looking out to sea is a joy, love it there, and can be there in no time:)

I think the most magical beach I ever went to was in Sri Lanka, no idea where we were, as we were on a tour and just stopped off overnight, when we arrived they was a wooded area nearby and the guide took us on a walk there, when we got back he said there was a beach down some stairs, and if we got up early enough, you could have a look before we continued on the tour, so after breakfast, I went down the stairs, and there was the most beautiful beach, which stretched for miles, and just me on it, the sea was blue, and the sand golden, I had 10 minutes alone there before anyone else came, I can shut my eyes and see it, wonderful :-D

I'm lucky to have the sea and the City, which I love as much, within an hour of my door :-D

Tresaith, West Wales.

Waterfall tumbling onto the beach from the cliffs above, secluded coves around the corner.

Bliss.

Most ideal beach my wife and I found was by accident. We were in an apartment on Corfu, in a rather commercialised place. We were out for a ride in the car we had hired and came upon the most gorgeous little hamlet, two and a half miles down a dirt track from the main road. Just one shop, 2 tavernas and a handful of houses and apartments. Not a disco in sight. Totally away from everything. We asked in the shop if there were vacancies. We were shown a beautiful tiled floor apartment, air conditioned and beautifully kept.
"How much?" "24 euros a night" (about £21.) We had 10 nights to go, without any hesitation we booked it and went and got our things from the original apartment.

And the beach ! Beautiful golden sand, warm blue sea, one man with a temporary stall and some cool boxes in which he had beers, soft drinks, ice creams and snacks, all at very reasonable prices.

We are going back, but don't ask where it is exactly, we want it to remain the way it is.

I love any beach where i can do a bit of beach combing, shells, stones, bits of wood etc., , .as i can only sit around for a short time without getting bored. Also one that is not too crowded. :- Cornish beaches are good for that, also Dorset for the fossils.

For spectacular stretches of golden sands, Northumberland, but not so warm.!

Polkerris has to be just about the best on the planet - secluded, tiny harbour, beautiful sand, fantastic bar virtually on the beach, great watersports - heaven
