I think that my brother beats all your skip rescues,he was passing a newly built house and noticed a beautiful solid wood conservatory in a skip on the drive. He called in to ask permission to rescue it,the owner was only too pleased as he was building a plastic one instead.

Brother is a builder by trade so had no trouble fitting the said conservatory to his own house,and very handsome it is.

Just so you all know ....I now have my new front door up and have my door number and intercom system all connected it looks lurvllllly..... :-D I do love a happy ending and i do love things from skips!!! :-D :-P :-P

Part of my training as a security officer years ago was, theft = to take the belongings of another with the intention to permanently deprive, sooo if you take it from a skip it has been thrown out and imo doesn't belong to anyone but you would have to try and find the owner and ask if you can take it.

RR My brother could give you a run for your money, he is always finding stuff in or against skips, last week it was a picture the owner said "give me a fiver and it's yours" he then sold it for £33.

Yes it is illegal to take things from skips, but if you ask the person whose house it is outside for permission then it is OK

We needed some old bricks for our garden to help make a path and were a few short, noticed some in a skip on next street so got OH to go and knock on door and ask if we could have some, no problem..... And we were all dressed up to go out for a meal, and there OH was skip diviing!!

ive never seen anything good enough to take from skips around here,but what i would really like to do is rummage through the big food bins outside supermarkets,they throw so much perfectly normal food away,such a waste. :-D :-D :-D

I have skipped before we found all the parts for our huge drum bbq in one (then sold it to the campsite) but now we tend to watch at the side of the wheelie bins. and yes I´ve had some great finds. Admittedly people to put good but unwanted things by the bins around here

I'm not usually a skip hunter, but passing an office block one evening on my way home I noticed their skip contained a few decent looking items amongst mostly broken tat.
I went home and got hubby out from the comfort of his armchair to help me salvage a lovely (carver) chair. After some sanding down and my attempt at re-upholstering I got a lovely chair which i've had for about 20 years now :-)

I had no idea it was illegal to take stuff from a skip.
Next door had one in their drive a couple of weeks ago, it hadn't been full 5 minutes before people were driving up to help themselves from it :-S
I would FAR rather see stuff recycled than destroyed.

My dad used to the same Mersey.

There was the one time where he spotted some castors/wheels on the bottom of a peice of furntiure. He went home to collect tools to remove them, then was most indignant when he had found that someone else had made off with 'his' wheels!

We had to throw away loads of rotted 'recycled' planks of wood when we eventually cleared his home.

a few weeks ago was at the local rubish skip with some needed throwing out stuff,,,,,,,,,while there people were off loading lots of stuff that could be given a second chance,,,ie garden bench,and many other things,,,,,,,,they were thrown in a crusher,,,,,,,the operator said they cant be passed on as its profitering as they may get sold on,,,,,,!!


you skippy people are modern day scavengers,,,,, :-D :-D ;-) ;-)love it,,,,,,all I ever see is landfill stuff....

Have to say my Dad is a pioneer at finding things in skips lol, when I lived at home Mum and I would go mad when he brought things back from his walk home from the pub at night ;-)....

Now here is me following in his footsteps.....it must be in the genes

And here am I thinking I was the only quilty person around, I sneaked two lovely framed pictures that I spotted in a skip whilst on my way to the local shop.. there was no one around at the time so took the chance, grabbed my loot and hurried back home, minus my shopping! I later went to a shop further from home just in case someone was laying in wait for my return to the scene of the crime.
That incident took place well over 50 years ago and the two pictures are hanging in my lounge right now...

Neighbours (where we used to live) were having a clear out.... so we got things before he threw them in the skip! They should have given the stuff to an op shop instead.

A brand new wok (my old one was ancient, really bashed around)

Six vases ~ which were all horrible, but we gave them to sis-in-law, she's a nurse and hospitals are always looking for vases.

i use to live in a massionet and every year we would all get to gether
and have a big bomb fire on the wast ground at the back for all the kids
any way one year one of the schools was getting rid of old school benches and desks thay was in the school skip so the kids thought thay could sit on them and put the desk on the bomb fire so thay ask head if thay could have them and he said yes


but o no the old man took them and sold them for £75
dident the kids just love that year haveing hot dogs bergers and hot soup
pluss extra fire works

the best things are always fant in skips
