.....................................................................

Whether or not you're for or against the monarchy, this country just needed a happy occasion to divert from all the hardship and misery being brought about by this era of austerity.

There will of course always be the killjoys who moan about tax-payers money being spent on the royals (actually they paid of much of it along with industry and others, little of it came out of tax-payers money),..and let's not forget the Queen reduced the civil list and they now pay taxes on their incomes...so they are taxpayers too. Some will say what about the police. Well a lot of police were on duty today VOLUNTARILY..so that kills that argument too...

But in the end, people were happy, people were smiling, people were enjoying themselves, in spite of the weather.

I've said before, I'm not particularly a monarchist, but I'm definitely not a republican either. But this was good for Britain..I enjoyed it all.

We certainly do, I have a feeling this Jubilee is going to do far more for this country than the Olympics will...

Just think Stray, you are young enough to almost certainly be here for the next Coronation...how exciting is that :-D ;-)

I've enjoyed it, and I agree that it will do more than the Olympics to show what a unified and proud country this can still be. :-D

I always think that we British do pomp and ceremony so well, and that the BBC coverage is the best. I havn't seen much, just the highlights, as, believe it or not, I have been busy. But what I have seen has been lovely, and very enjoyable

Hello Teresa ,

Don't think we've ever "spoken" before, but just wanted to say I agree with everything you've said in your OP.

My thoughts entirely, I also enjoyed it all, and am proud to be British.

Tec.

I think there were around 10 arrests, out of the 1.5 million people in London.

Did you notice a small group of republican protesters outside St Paul's this morning? They were chatting happily to a group of royalists..(for want of a better name), quite happily, but bit by bit those royalists nudged that small group back and when the Queen arrived, they were chanting 'God Save the Queen' and drowning out the protestors!

I thought that was brilliant. Monarchist or not, our Queen has been on the throne for 60 years. She's made mistakes, she's made the effort to put them right, but after 60 years, she deserves her day, and deserves not to have it spoilt.

i think the closest she's ever come to making a wrong call was during the time just after Diana died when she didn't come out and make a statement. She totally misjudged public opinion but clawed it back at the 11th hour x

TeresaW Report 5 Jun 2012 19:18

Yep,, that ws the big one, no flag at half-mast over the palace, and no plans for speech...just carry on regardless...but the public said different.

That and Spencers speech at the funeral, that marked the changes they had to make.

I am a Royalist and proud I am too, even when Diana died I personally wasnt angry at her I was at Charles but not the Queen she is a grandmother and her duty was to her Grandsons....she does look tired but she has been on a 4 day bender most of us couldnt keep with that... :-D

As I said to Stray earlier the likes of this none of us will ever see again.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 5 Jun 2012 19:56

well to be honest I wasn't particularly interested in the Jubilee but once things started I completely changed my mind and thought everything was brilliant - wished I seen "All the Queen's horses" which apparently was fab, so am hoping they put it on again

the concert was fab [with a few exceptions - Macca, Cliff and Grace Jones - but the rest was brilliant

Macca looked older than the Queen - he had a sort of "dug up" look about him and he sure cannot sing!!!

Mads

Mads Report 5 Jun 2012 20:19

Macca looked like an old rung out chamois (sp) leather, lol
