Sharron Report 8 Feb 2012 12:50

My dad emptied cesspits for the council. He was telling me one day he had been driving back to the yard daydreaming, as you do when you drive all the time, automatic pilot.

It wasn't until he was through the lights and up the road that he realized they had been red. Then he had a bit of a panic.

Driving to the sewage works to empty half the content a particularly large pit he was surprised how many people he was seeing who knew him and flashed back to them all in a friendly way.

Pulling into the works he saw four pipes hanging off the back of the lorry that he had been dragging along the road.

I just thought I would nudge this, not to rub Ann's nose in it but so you could see my dad was a silly old sod even before he had his stroke.

AHH! glad that the misdemeanour has been recognised.....It happens,,,,,

i once was stopped at a roadworks(late at night)and sat there waiting for what seemed ages, and decided to filter through....about ten yards of works.

well it appears that i was being observed by a panda car.........which followed me and i got done for contravening a traffic signal.

ironically the copper said that about ten seconds after i started driving through............the lights changed

bit he knicked me anyway 3 points and 30 quid!!

......have you (anyone) been driving on autopilot and thought.............i dont remember going through "there!"?

I travelled the A1 for 12 years and it was when I came to a well known bend I used to wake up and think 'how did I get here'

Bob, my Dad many years ago, was stopped at roadworks traffic lights which seemed to be stuck both ends, nobody was moving, no roadworkers around as it was after hours. In the end he lost patience and drove through and yes, was seen and stopped and fined.

Last August OH was driving his car with DiL in the front seat and Son was driving his with me in the front seat, going to a restaurant in our area, they didn't know the way. Son was following OH. We both stopped at road works lights. Traffic came through the other way, then OH just drove off through the red light with us watching, he realised and pulled quickly across a side road just by the lights as traffic coming towards us. Moved off when they went green and he fortunately didn't get caught. Even now he remembers and says he hasn't a clue why he drove through that light. I mean he had actually stopped, then started again.

This morning (and this is really not like him), he was talking and went through lights as they went from orange to red very near home, he was going too fast to stop. Normally he slows right down approaching lights. Hopefully there are no cameras on those lights. And a long delay luckily.

I've just read this ............ and it took me right back, almost 45 years ago.

OH had spent 6 months in the US, and went back to the UK for our wedding, arriving about 10 days before the date.

We spent much of those 10 days driving back and forth between his home and mine.

On one trip on the main Oldham to Manchester road, he drove through a red light .............. then stopped on the other side :-S

Th next set of lights were green ....... so he stopped at them. :-S :-S :-S

Fortunately it was about 10:30 pm, there was literally no other traffic on the road, and, most importantly, no police ........ cameras didn't exist in those days :-D

We'd already had to change the rental car once ............... it stalled every time OH slowed down to 10 mph. We came to a full stop in some very dangerous places.

It turned out that the speedometer was not set correctly ........... so we got a replacement car.

The day after our marriage, we were driving through Kendal, and stopped at a T junction near the centre of town. OH knew it well .............. there was a car in front of us, it started off, so OH started to move, and then looked left to check for other traffic coming from that "arm" of the T. Unfortunately the other driver then stopped. So we hit his rear end .......... very gently of course, so not too much damage

After 3 days in Scotland, we were driving through Dumfries on the way back to Chester when a policeman jumped out from a hedge ............. honestly!! .................. and stopped 3 cars. We were the middle car.

He let the first and third car go, then told OH that he had been "a wee bit over the speed limit, laddie. Can I see your driving license?"

So, OH presents an English driving license, and proceeds to add "but I return to the US tomorrow, and I don't know when we will be back in the UK". Much questioning, and wondering looks.

Finally, "ah, we'll forget it. Can't be bothered chasing you over there"!

He got stopped about 3 years ago on a road not far from home ................. he had turned right where a right turn was not allowed. The sign was actually high up on a tree trunk at the intersection, and very difficult to see.

The RCMP officer took all OH's details to his car, entered it all in the computer ............. then came back and said they would only issue a warning because he had had a clean record for over 40 years!
