Thank you to all of you for your comments.
Muffyxx, yes I am feeling a bit better this morning, but still bitterly regret doing it though.!!
Sharron, it only happened yesterday so havnt had 'the letter' yet but have heard about driver awareness days and will take the opportunity to do that if offered.
It has been a wake up call for me and I will take much more care in the future and hopefully will not let anything distract me like that again.
Thanks again to all of you for all your support.
Ann xx

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 7 Feb 2012 11:04

the points are wiped out after you take the course and you receive a letter informing you of that fact

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 7 Feb 2012 11:19

I understand how you must be feeling and offer sympathy. I used to have a 26 mile commute and after a days work I had all on to concentrate. I have 8 camera's on the first leg of the journey but I agree how easy it is to lose concentration, albeit for a short while. Apart from writing off a scooter in 1966 I have been lucky. Yes I drive within the road conditions and hopefully I will not get a ticket for speeding but I know a fine could be .......just a journey away.

Many years ago in the late 50'smy brother bought a Vincent motorbike and my dad had asked to take it for a spin. Not used to the power as he was more used to old bangers, he was caught by the police doing 55 mph in a 30 mile zone. As a family, although it was wrong, we thought it was funny as my dad couldn't believe that he was travelling at that speed as he was so enthralled with the bike.

Anyone can lose concentration. Chin up, its happened and yes it is disappointing but the fact that it concerns you proves that you are a caring driver.-jl

What is safer?

a driver with the eyes glued to the speedo?

or one that is more concerned with what is happening on the road he is driving on?

Bob

I can sympathise with driving a strange vehicle though, My car is a picasso xzara..........and was recently loaned a brand new Corsa.........

talk about different.............quieter. nippier, really had to watch the clock!!

My speedo is two inch high numbers..in the middle dashboard...........the corsa's is a dial behind the steering wheel

Everybody has assumed that Ann was speeding but I can't see where she says that she was so maybe we are all jumping to conclusions. But whatever it was it is past. I assume that you were flashed by a camera as otherwise how would you know to expect a letter. Maybe you'll be lucky and the camera was empty which is what happened to us (I wasn't driving) with a speed camera. We saw a flash but never heard any more. It is good that you feel guilty at breaking the law as so many wouldn't but it is doing no good for you to keep beating yourself up about it. You will be alert now and won't do it again so forgive yourself. :-)

i just assumed with the 3 points n standards 60 fine, and that she will take the awareness course if offered :)

i dont know anyone who hasnt speeded, be it by accident or on purpose, as long as no one was hurt i think it will be fine

AnnMarieG Report 7 Feb 2012 16:51

although I am still very ashamed of my actions yesterday I will come clean so to speak and admit what I did was to go straight through a red light at a cross roads but the only good thing is that the traffic can only come from the left due to the one way system. That is not excusing what I did.I did not see the camera flash , I am only presuming I have been caught..I am only assuming it will be a £60 fine and 3 points but if I get the chance to do an awareness course I will as I think it will do me a lot of good.I have been over the same junction today and I can assure you all I was very aware.!!!!

aw Ann stop worrying, honestly no on was hurt, your fine, and you have definitly learnt your lesson, and dwelling on it wil only make you feel worse,

so,

dust yourself down,
and tomorow is another day
and repeat after me, other's have done worse :-D

AnninGlos Report 7 Feb 2012 17:14

I did wonder if it was a traffic light boob as you would have said I think if it was speeding. at least you were careful today. Not all lights have cameras on them so you may have got away with it. Just be careful (I know you will) in future for your own safety, and lucky nothing was coming the other way. :-)

Kay???? Report 7 Feb 2012 17:22

Ann,,dont beat yourself up,,,Its made you more aware and thats a good thing,

last week we were at 4 way traffic light system,,,,,,,right lane going to turn right, indication lights going...green set off,,,,,some daft ****was coming straight at us,,and then shook his fits because as we turned we very nearly collided,,why! he had **jumped a red light,**
best of it was the children in the back of our car were not mine!!!!

I certainly hope he was caught on the camera system in place,

It gave the the jitters all night at what might have happened but it passed within a couple of days as I'm sure yours will, chin up lady.x

It happens Ann. I was so busy thinking which way to go to conserve fuel during that tanker driver's strike I went through a red light. Only realised it when a car honked its horn. I was just not concentrating.

Hope if there was a camera it did not get you as I think it's grossly uinfair that good drivers are penalised for momentory lapses. Chin up.

I've been driving since 1958 and got nicked for the first time ever last November. I was offered a "Speed Awareness" course in lieu of 3 points and £60 fine. I chose to do the course and found it of interest but at a cost.................. £95!

Sharron

Sharron Report 7 Feb 2012 20:36

You have o do the course where you were nicked too. One chap at the Hampshire one had flown in from Belfast.

This happened to a neighbour but it involved not wearing a seatbelt. She had literally just driven off and was spotted by a plain clothes policeman who radioed ahead to a patrol car. She was given the choice of paying £60 or attending one of these awareness courses but she was told she had to go to the course that afternoon. When she got there, she said she was the only woman among loads of beefy lorry drivers who thought it all a bit of a joke as it wasn't the first time they had attended!

She blamed it on her new bulky coat as she ALWAYS wears her seatbelt but she accepted she was in the wrong. When they pulled her over, she was just about to pull into a layby as she realised she hadn't put her belt on and didn't want to try while driving along!

Pity they don't pull over more drivers who are on mobile phones while trying to negotiate roundabouts, etc.

AnninGlos Report 8 Feb 2012 10:42

Christmas before last we were down in Hampshire and had just dropped my sister off in Fareham and were driving to daughters near Winchester. I always but always wear my seat belt and have done since before they were compulsory. We were driving through Bishops Waltham and I was idly looking at two police man and woman on the beat when I sort of became aware that something was strange. Yes I had forgotten to fasten my belt (I was not driving) and I wriggled it over my shoulder as we passed the police. I was horrified as to what might have happened if we'd braked sharply and it was a long time before I got the what ifs out of my head. I realised that I had turned round to wave to my sister as we pulled away and when I turned back we were chatting and I too had a coat on, but I could so easily have been fined and so would OH. Easily done so I am not quite so quick to criticize people not wearing their belt now. :-)
