Just been into see about buying some credits and got a big shock

50 credits for a fiver and you need 30 for every search

That works out at £3 per search very very expensive don't you think

What do you think

My husband is going to pay for an upgrade for a month for me for xmas any tips on how to get the most out of the offer as it will only be for a month

I have only used it once when genes gave me 30 credits

It is only the 1911 census, passenger lists and sending a message to another member that costs 30 credits. Most other searches are between 3 and 15 credits.

Overall a subscription to Findmypast or Ancestry works out cheaper in the long run.

Is that 30 credits for 1911 census or all records including BDM ?

the 1911 has a different tarrif of credit use to other records on Findmypast, its 10 credits to view a transcript of each search or 30 credidt each search to see the actual image of census form.

Ancestry offer a months subs (i think its £12+per month to view but doesnt include 1911 census as they dont have it -yet- only enumerators books which isnt too great a help.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 28 Oct 2011 23:05

Ancestry only have *summary books* which isnt at all helpful as it doesnt give a whole household only princable name....no information as regards age, job, or married or a parent.....shame really but even they I bet will make a seperate charge for viewing if they had it in full.!!

Braken Report 28 Oct 2011 23:08

Sadly nearly everything is about money these days

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 28 Oct 2011 23:13

I have to say that I don't begrudge the amount they charge for the census as it was a massive job to digitise these records when you remember just how many millions of households there are in the country and all of these records had to be gone through and filmed and then transcribed.
