I endorse entirely what you have said Chris in Wessex. This was the point I was trying to make in my previous post. To be on the receiving end of this bullying, is terrible. Those that have never experienced this, are very lucky. It is not a nice place to be, believe me.
Surely, when these bullies go looking for peoples threads where they can spread their poison, is harrasment.
Why we cannot unite to get rid of these people, I do not know. The board would be a lot nicer place to be,without them

I stay because this was the first site I became a paid member of and, (as Joy also says) I would have to pay more for my subscription if I left and returned.

Went onto TTF in the first few months then found fun on the general.then new chat boards, there were some great friendly members, and I enjoyed the quizzes etc.....but even over 7 years ago there were troublemakers......hence the mass exodus!! and I miss those folks.....not the troublemakers I might add lol

But there are folk on here now that I care about and would miss, and there are also family members I have found soo...........I'm staying :Op

I am on other sites where there are emoticans etc.etc. but I have usually found GR to be a more intimate place

Hmm. Yes, it's for the genealogy.

Sometimes even my own. ;)

And, of course, to amuse.

l just love it on here;o)
l'm the same as Marilyn, its usually the first thing l do when l get up and the last thing at night.
l've gone and come back quite a few times, seen loads of changes .....l don't join discussion threads as much incase l say the wrong thing. l have had some bad times on here but the good outweigh those.
Its a brilliant place for caring and understanding:o)

One day l willget back to my family history, l know lhave a fascinating family out there, l love the mystery and really am looking forward to finding any extra siblings that are bound to be out there:o))))

My reason for staying.....Well I never did know when to leave a party :-))))

As for wums etc....they are part and parcel of most forums, and besides....whatever would we moan about or try playing at detective?.....

I bet all members will agree with me when I say that....at first I was mortified by the wums, or even if I 'thought' someone was having a go at me.......Now I take it in my stride......they are GR as well as we are, and I have to admit to laughing in the wrong places at times.....give me a witty wum any time lol

Rambling Report 16 Sep 2010 23:25

I find some of them ( wums) rather like the 'inevitable relative' the one you try to avoid at parties and family 'dos' ;)

the one who at every wedding says "It won't last",

the one who tells you "Of course, all your ancestors died of that disease, you want to be careful "

" No good will come of it" ...(about almost anything anyone does)

" What a pity you weren't taller, slimmer, prettier, didn't study more, married, didn't marry, did or didn't have children " :))

Is there an x factor or pop idol this autumn? we could start another thread, not into the dancing one..lol

Rose.........very funny..........I did ask what a wum was, but I have forgot again.......the brain cells are shrinking!!

Susanwithnumbers, since you asked so nicely on the Oz thread, originally I came onto these boards having been told about them by a member of the local FHS which I had newly joined.

There was a message regarding a person who I thought was my grandfather. It turned out that it wasn't but I stayed.

I have received much help in my various researches but I also enjoy this site as a social site.

I am not on Facebook or Twitter, nor do I Tweet or have a Blackberry or whatever other fruit is flavour of the the month with the Telcos.

Despite the outbreak of nasties which sometimes occur I enjoy the interaction with other members

Susan10146857 Report 16 Sep 2010 23:52

Thank you Allan :-))

It is people like yourself, hidden away in other threads that perhaps some do not read, that keeps me here.

When we moan about nothing going on or wums, we forget, in my opinion, that there are many other threads with many many more members we may never have spoken to. Sometimes the heading doesn't reflect the on going banter or stories.

Now and then I peek into these threads...at first I thought they were cliquey, but I found that if one introduces oneself and joins in......many friends can be made..........Not all of GR is Wummy....we can choose who we speak to or avoid.

Edit:- and I luvs ya too Suemaid................

Sheesh and Yuk......the things one says at this time of night/day

Hi Sue

I agree with Allan ( except about his grandfather .lol)

I've mostly given up on my tree cos don't get much joy with hot matches I have loads, but only been contacted by a few ( Bobby no mates spring to mind ! )

I stay for the interaction with other members, and still keep in touch with 2 ex members , now good friends from Oz :))

When I feel in a 'Grrr' mood, I find a quick e-mail to an supermarket about their carrots, apples etc a good thing.
Also an e-mail to your internet provider (with, of course a premium telephone number) stating that you aren't happy at being 'number 1 in the queue and still spend 20 minutes waiting before giving up.
Then, after sending them an e-mail complaining, asking why they are incapable of forwarding said e-mail to the correct 'department.
A great stress reliever full of wonderment at what 'statutory' reply you'll get - and how irrelevant to your initial complaint it will be!

After this, when I come onto GR, life seems a bit more sensible - even when the WUMs turn up!!

Hi Sue with number's

lol at comment made about cliquey threads, we have all run over here to join you and add to the reason we have stayed.

I have chattered to many nice people on here and made a lot of friend's, I have had a lot of support and a lot of laugh's with many peep's on the different thread's and that is why I stay.
Since I came on the board's I must admit I haven't done much to my Tree.

"Ann " were have you been the past few week's hun X Factor has been back for at least 3wks :))
