I had a squealer at the other end of the ward.... there were only two of us having babies, and the ward was empty apart from us....... I decided to keep my knickers on, lol I WAS NOT going to take 'em off.

Consultant cut them off me before he broke my waters..... and I know I whimpered once or twice, but that was all!!

*blushes* I know, but really, I was not going to take them off!!

And my lad was due on the 15th of the month... he didn't arrive for another week.... on the 15th, someone on the Archers went into labour.... my word, she was a screamer... but that was absolutely truly the first time it dawned on me that these labour pains were actually going to bally well hurt! I really hadn't thought this motherhood thing through, had I?

strange the way things are depicted in films........
the guy ALWAYS( well mostly) gets out of the conjugal bed with his pants on, the girl ALWAYS pulls up the sheets to cover her chest;
and often the pair will pull on their clothes, straight after the so called act......

Dear All

Hello,

I am going to be a bit controversial!

I think that women should have whatever pain relief they feel they need during labour.

It was terrible when our female ancestors went through childbirth
and so many died hrough complications.

There is too much criticism of women who don't have a natural birth.

There is nothing natural about being in agony for hours.
Now there are many drugs to help so they should be given.

Far better if the mother has an easier delivery with pain relief
and can bond with baby, then have physical and mental problems afterwards.

Best wishes to all.
xx

I agree with that.

I had pethidine first time, which spaced me out so much I didn't know what I was doing.

Second time I refused pethidine, but they said it was too late for that and gave me gas and air

WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO THAT WAS GOOD STUFF! lololol

Yes but to be fair, they can hardly put a new-born under the spotlight in the first few minutes of it's life can they. Those minutes are for mum and baby, not for soap opera cameras. I don't mind that so much.

But if they wanted to make the birth as realistic as possible I really think they should have had Tony panicking about how to deal with the umbilical cord, not just lifting the baby out, wrapped in his shirt, and handing it straight to Maria. To me that was poor.
