I love cats and they have been my best friends since I was a child. I always had cats until I divorced 9 years ago and where I live now is unsuitable, as I have no outside space so I don't think it would be fair. I would not like a 'house' cat

I make a fuss of everybody else's when I can, and have enjoyed reading all your posts. I have had some wonderful cats, I had a little female who liked to climb, her favourite trick was to run up the central pole of the whirly washing line and then tightrope walk around the wires on top! My favourites are ginger toms and the huge ginger tom I had was so intelligent, I had him before I had my children and they could do anything with him, he would come into the room whenever we had a house full of kids and was so patient, he put up with yanked ears, being poked and having his tail pulled, etc. he sometimes put a paw on them, as if to say 'thats enough' but never a claw! I do miss them all.

Thanks everyone, for adding to my thread.

I hadn't realised that there are as many of us around. It has been great reading about all of your cats and their traits.

My newbie Tom is my 5th cat. He is the only one that I have not had since a kitten. My daughter originally got him from a rescue centre, but new job commitments meant the wee thing was being left on his own for too long.He had been reported to the SSPCA by concerned neighbours of his previous owner. Not certain why, as he is no trouble at all.

I noticed that Marion mentioned her indoor cat being nice and slim. This is my problem!

Besides his getting out of the house a few days ago, that I mentioned on my other thread, Tom does not seem interested in venturing out, at all.
Result.........a rather tubby cat.

I am taking him to the vets for a general check anyway, but wonder if anyone has any idea as to how to slim him down. Our daughter says we are over compensating for his sad past.! He eats dry cat food, tins of tuna, and cooked chicken slices. Is there a diet book for cats? lol.

Hiya Gail.... well, there is a way.... but you really must be prepared for plaintive miaows and pathetic looks, lol... reduce plate sizes... make him work for his food by not putting the *wet* food down until the *dry* food has gone... and hide the dry food around the house so that he has to hunt it out... start the process by just moving his dish with a few bits in... let him see it the first couple of times, until he has got used to you putting it in different places... takes a couple of days.... then start hiding it for real, ie don't let him see where you have put it, so that he has to search... and if you put his days quota into one dish and put that in a cupboard out of his reach... then just take a few bits and sprinkle them in a corner at odd times throughout the day... he will get to know that he has to work for his food, and you will also be able to monitor how much he is eating!! He'll be constantly nosing around looking for his dinner, lol Result... a slimmer cat!!
