Did anyone have a Flatley drier -my Mum had one till recently? You put the clothes on racks and turned it on -heat dried the clothes, Ros xx

Gosh Amanda.............I had forgotten that. My Mum used to do the same............and while memory is being jogged.....do you remember the Robin starch? I can vaguely remember the shirts with the detatchable collars.........They had to be ironed until they were shiney.......lol

Thanks for the tip on bicarb for the bee sting La Gooner and Tina it is also great for washing out your fridge and if you have an odour in the fridge just place dry bicarb in an eggcup.

I also use it for baking with......lol

Amanda, I only just remember them - honestly! Don't know if they are still around though. Imagine telling a youngster at the checkout what they were for! They'd think we were crackers with all the poncey stuff you can get now!!!!!

its good for unblocking drains with vinegar and sugar too

La Gooner you beat me to it with the Bicarb. I always have a tub of it in the house - its good for indegestion and cleaning out flasks or tea pots.

i would only have a couple of loads a week if my 20yr old was not at home lol but as that is all i see of him really its not too bad

I use the line whenever possible, and hang clothing from hangers and hang those on the top of the door frames if necessary so air can cirulate round them and they dry without needing ironing.
Socks and undies I peg on to one of those multi peg things, from poundshop or similar, then if it rains you just bring the whole caboodle in and don't get soaked unpegging sock after sock. I also got some of those multi hangers for tops, so can do all o.h.'s work tshirts and hang them up in one, from the line if nice weather and they finish off a treat, or from the machine if wet outside and they dry inside. I only use the dryer in the washer/dryer for towels and such.
Can't beat a nice line of washing blowing in the wind.

Val.......I wish you could see my whirleygig clothes line. It looks like my brother ran over it but I can't blame him as he lives in Canada.....lol...it is just old age.... I say I need a new one but OH assures me that it will be fine if it is rethreaded.
Joan.......Had a good laugh at your Mum trying to put it up and almost hanging herself. Reminded me of the Dolmio advert......lol
Cynthia........Thanks for the memory. I am sure few kids today know what a bluebag was. It was a good cure for a bee sting too....vinegar for a wasp sting and blue bag for a bee sting. I don't know what to put on a bee sting now.......lol

Maybe so Cynthia..........but I have only played with blue bags......not actually used them in the laundry process.........lol

Yes prefer to use the clothes line and only use the tumble dryer if its raining and I need to dry something quickly. There is a great satisfaction for me drying clothes outside on the line. And yes I am `older` as well. lol

I've got a tumble drier but I only ever use it for emergencies.

We've got a whirligig clothes line which I put out in good weather. I take it down between times. I can't use it in the autumn because washing gets blobs of bird mess (usually stained with blackberries!).

I'm really lucky that between our house and the garage was a corridor which was covered in when the house was new. One end of the corridor has several permanent lines for washing. I can just hang stuff over the lines rather than peg it and it dries really quickly because the boiler is out there and the see-through roof lets the sun in on bright days. So washing dries in 24 hours or so out there and I can get about 3 loads out at once.

I did discover a while ago that if my whirligig is full of washing and it starts to rain that I can pick the whole thing up and transfer it to a garden parasol stand in our conservatory. It takes up most of the room but the roof is high so it works.

Odd socks etc get put to dry on radiators.

I remember "dolly blue bags" Cynthia , my Mum used to let me play with one in the sink , it turned the water blue and I could pretend it was the deep blue sea : )

My mum used to hang blue things next to the white ones. She thought it made the whites look whiter! Remember the little blue bag anyone???

i have a washing line, n use my tumble dryer for 5mins to soften my kids underwear as they r only ikkle...xx

I remember my mother telling me not to put out several pairs of knickers at a time or people will think you don`t wash very often -didn`t heed her !!

I miss my pulley -anyone still got one -we had to take it down when we lowered the kitchen ceiling. My tumble dryer is in the bathroom, Ros xx

I use my rotary drier when the weather permits, but then, I don't have a drier lol

I have an airing cupboard in my bedroom with hanging space which I use.
