Do you use a clothes line.............

.............or do you just bundle everything into the dryer? I was astounded to find that most people I know don't use the line anymore. What makes me smile is that these are the same people who talk about global warming, recycling and eating organic.

Do these people not realise the cost of running a dryer, the waste of electricity and the impact it has on the invironment? I'm not saying that I never use the dryer but I use it sparingly. If the weather is bad I hang the clothes overnight on the clotheshorse before putting them in the dryer but nothing can beat that "fresh air" smell off clothes after they have been on the line.

I use my whirly line all the time. nothing better than the smell of clothes dried in the open. If I do have to use the dryer in the winter time then I use it overnight on the cheaper rate. The top Bannister rail on the top landing is a great place to dry sheets and woollies ,we have warm air central heating so the heat gets a good circulation.
I do sometimes in the summer use the dryer for towels as I hate rough towels to dry myself on.
we have next door neighbours who rarely put washing on the line,if they do its only bedlinen sometimes in the summer.Some people seem to be coy about putting undies on the line. Not me ,they blow in all their glory!!

I use a washing line too Heather, but also use a dryer. There's only the 2 of us now, so I tend to wash at the weekend (my days off work). I tend to use the dryer for "smalls", but the rest get pegged out on the line.

I do use the dryer for towels though. I hate cardboard towels!!

i use my line all the time..... even when its snowed... (not as its snowing... lol ), then hang them up to air if still a bit damp, but mostly they come in dry... :)

i've a small kitchen so no room for a dryer... i could of bought the old 2 in 1's.. but the line is long enough, the length of the garden, so get full wash on and bit more lol

i put everything on aswell, even hubby's novelty thongs.. lol xxx

I hate cardboard towels too but the trick is to take them in off the line before they get like that and finish them off in the dryer.
I must admit I do sometimes put socks into the dryer as itr takes so long to peg them ......but that is due to my laziness........lol

That's what I tend to do with towels Heather, give them a blow on the line first then put them in the dryer. As we are speaking, my smalls are in the dryer, but the rest of the washing is blowing in the wind.

For those of you who don't have room for a dryer in the kitchen, mine is in the garage!

OH and I play a game called 'Beat the Elements' !! If it stops raining for just half an hour - out goes the washing! The neighbours must think we are bonkers but I refuse to use the dryer when the fresh air is free!

Washing goes on the line all year round. Indoors on an airer if it is raining. Don't have a dryer.

I didn't use my dryer much when I had my airing cupboard, everything used to get shoved in there. Unfortunately we had the hot water tank taken out when we replaced the boiler. I really do miss the airing cupboard though.

same here Janice no dryer .. but have long line and 2 small ones holds two washer loads.... love mine outside house is warm so they air quick........

I've had my washing line for 40 years ! It was an offcut piece of yachting rope and has been through several house moves, besides being an emergency tow-rope !. Once a year it gets a good soapy wash in the machine , out in all weathers, it's the one thing I can rely on, not to let me down!
No tumble drier thanks.

I am so glad to hear that so many of you still use the line but I suspect that you are all in my age range.....lol. Seems to me that the younger generation can't be bothered to go to the line.....

Maggy, I have the same problem.......Lost my airing cupboard last year.....lost without it. The dryer is used more often now to air clothes that otherwise would have been put in the airing cupboard

I use a clothes line heather. Its in the backstreet but is good when its windy.I also use the raidiators and bannisters, but it has caused the wallpaper to peel.

Id like a tumble drier but was put off by electricity prices. Now gas is so expensive it may be a good idea,

Have a drier but only use when there is no alternative to drying clothes - especially towels in the winter.

I haven't got a tumble dryer and wouldn't want one either.
I use the washing line if weather permits but failing that I have an old fashioned " shelias maid " rack thingy on my kitchen ceiling.......in the winter time when the little gas fire is on in the kitchen ( heat rises) and the laundry is dryed no time at all.

I got a lllllllloooooooooooooonnnggg washing line ....its 70 foot with many props !!!!! well with 4 boys doing footie what else can you do ....

the tumble dryer shrinks it all ,.....

had a drier years ago , got rid of it ....

Washing line 99.9% of the time. Peeps in work are always commenting on how lovely I smell (thank goodness) I tell them its FRESH AIR and comfort! LOL

i ahve two lines outside washing always goes out even if we due rain i run out n finish it in the dryer if i have to
but only use the drier when i have to xxx

I do both Whirley and tumble .My sister told me tonight she has put the cover on her Whirley,as she will probably now just use tumble drier for the winter.!!!!!!!!
