I have been given an epipen after tests determined I have a nut allergy. It seems the most dangerous ones are hazelnuts, pistachio and cashews in my case.

Anyone else have a similar allergy and do you carry an epipen around with you all the time, or just when you go for a meal.

Are some nuts generally accepted to be more poisonous than others?

Anyway, I'm off to the pub - with my epipen in the car.

My husband has a severe nut allergy and goes into anaphylactic shock, he has to keep a pen on him all times he also has 2 at home.

The main problem we find is alot of food has nut allergy warning on them and although the food my not have nuts in them they can have traces of nut from cross contamination so you have be be very careful. If we have anything with nuts in the house I have to ensure the surfaces and anything used is sterilised properly. Cross contamination can also occur if you are just drinking in a pub ie if the bar tender has handle nuts then touched your glass you can also have an episode which will need to be treated straight away depending on the severity of your case.

I hope you dont mind me adding my post but I thought it may be of use to you.

I'm told peanutes aren't really nuts....never had a reaction to them, but hazelnuts are pretty bad. Not had an anaphylactic episode yet, but they told me it can happen anytime.

ANyway, if I dont make it back from the pub you'll know why.

Eldrick, don't leave your pen in the car, you need it in your pocket at all times. Not a nice way to go.

You're right about peanuts Eldrick, they are not actually nuts, they are a type of pea (hence the name)

No Eldrick 2 if you have a severe nut allergy, CPR wont save you unless the medics can get air into you and as your airways will swell....oops sorry I promised Eldrick that I would stay off his threads....but then again I'm not sure who Eldrick2 is yet so maybe I'm excused
